Only one clown loach as an adult? What?!? Only reasoning I can think of for that is because they get fairly big you wouldn't want a group of them in a small tank. But if you've got a nice sized tank the more clown loaches the happier they'll be...

I got a couple of Butterfly rams about a month back. They have started to develop really nice colours and get to about 3 inches. They are always up to something, not just circling but exploring or hassling other fish (not in a mean way). They are definately a fish I want more of ... try a couple of them....

They're a gorgeous fish, if you can get good ones. There

are some really dreadful ones out there, poor colour,

sunken bellies and prone to keeling over at the drop of

a hat.

I've never seen them get anywhere near 3 inches though,

more like 3cm...

Andrew.

Ah. Microgeophagus ramirezi is what I usually think of when I

hear 'ram', the curse of common names...

while M. altispinosa:

is a bigger fish often called the Bolivian Ram. Most of the

ones of these I've seen lately have deformed 'noses'...

As with everything, it depends on the community. They can

be fine with suitable small peaceful tankmates.

Boy need to look up the fancy names

I got mine from hollywood but saw some cheaper the other week at massey and they definately don't have the same colors happening. I thought I had male and female but the smaller fish is now displaying same patterns. Wow it has colored up really nicely....

I read they got to 3 inches and hope they will ( I will get some more once I move).

Mine must be a couple of cm's now and they are definately getting bigger....

Well,

After say that the M. altispinosa I'd seen lately hadn't been very

flash, I went into Wet Pets yesterday and saw some relatively

nice ones (although one or two still seemed to have the deformed

nose). Anyway, after watching them for a while I saw that two

had paired off and spawned and were guarding their eggs from all

manner of other fish. Sadly, I succumbed and bought the pair

for my community tank (not bad for $16ea and even better when

they forgot to charge me for one of them :) ).

Today, they're looking fine - swimming about and exploring. Not

being bothered by, or bothering, any of the other fish (which are

all pretty peaceful anyway).

Hopefully, once I get some room in the fishroom I'll be able to

set them up on their own and spawn them properly.

Andrew.

Right well, I bought the Fluval 304 today, along with the Fluval Surface Skimmer.

My question is: How in the Seven Hells do you make it so that it spins like it does at the shops??

I thought maybe that it had to have an air bubble under the little plastic thingee, but no.

Then I thought maybe if I played with how high or low the screw thingee is in would help, but no.

I'm lost!!!

Kerry0. RAMS are all good in a comunity tank. I have 5 in mine, shareing space with cardinals, rummby noses, gourmas, big syndondas cats, loachs etc.

Mine are 'Bolivian Blue Ram' or someshuch. 3-4cm long and look stunning at times.
