Brianemone
my durso seems to make a huge amount of bubbles, does anyone have any idea on how to cut that down???
slappers
what about if you try the next size up in piping ???? just on the durso
Brianemone
it already is using the size bigger than the hole (hole is 25mm and the standpipe is 32mm)
Brianemone
does anyone else have a durso that goes straight down from the hole in the tank into the sump?? i think this might be part of the problem
slappers
hmmm mine does but i dont have the bubbles you are getting its like an inside of a skimmer
suphew
Read the durso web site, he talks about bubbles, they are normal. I have been playing round with cutting slots on the top of my outlet pipe just below the water line, it doesnt stop the bubbles but makes them exit the water a lot faster and cuts down on the noise from them. slappers
you have to see the amount off bubbles he getting its like a overflow and skimmer all in one
suphew
I'm willing to bet money he doesnt have as many as I do! lol I have about 7000lph (pump is rated at 8000 at zero head) going through a standard 4 foot tank, stand pipe is 50mm top and 40mm bottom. with only 100-150 liters in sump it will empty in less than a minute if the overflow blocks! wasp
Don't you adjust the airhole or something?
suphew
Don't you adjust the airhole or something? The air hole is what lets the air in (duh, that even sounds stupid as I typed it), stops the pipe turning into a syphon, because of this some air goes down with the water, ending up as the bubbles at the bottom. If you have a syphon, you get the loud sucking sound.
lduncan
Durso is not a great idea in my opinion. You're trying to control the amount and flow of air down the overflow to try and counter something which is cause by air in the first place. Intermittent siphon is where you get the really loud gargling, that the durso attempts to fix. A full siphon is silent, as it has no air flowing in the tube. In my opinion that is what you want. It is virtually self adjusting. You don't get anywhere near the amount of bubbles entering the sump. Of course you need some sort of backup if it blocks, but a Durso can block just as easily and cause just as much mess. Layton
Brianemone
when i pulled out the old sump the bubbles had actually made a bit of skimmate on the walls  i think for now i will just make a little nest of filter wool and egg crate. then i'll experiment with spraybars and bends etc
cracker
Should have gone for a Cracker valve!!!
ghostface
surely its just a cas of adjusting the air mix... maybe your return plumbing is too big for the volume of water travelling through it, making it necessary to draw more air so as not to syphon. all dursos i have heard are near silent. i hope the new one i have made is, havent filled tank yet
Ira
Mine was bubbly at first, I mean big noisy bubbles. But after a little while it settled down and was just more of a foam, makes a quiet hissing noise that's totally drowned out by everything else in the tank.
