Newtman
well the fotprint of the hopefully new reef tank to be is 1790mm x 530 mm,just a query as to what height it should be ? what height do most of all you reefers out there have? curently the height we have on the old tank is 780mm,but i very anoying to clean and maintain, and light penetration is an issue. was thinking mabye 650mm to the water level..... what do you all think? :-? SteveA
Current tank is 650, previous was 700. I reduced the height so I could go up to 1000 front to back and still get access at the back. Steve
suphew
Both my tank (old and new) are 600mm high, I can only just comfitably reach the bottom, I also run 250w Mh and wouldn't like to go much deeper with out moving up to 400's. But really when it comes down to it, the answer is determined by how much money your willing to spend I recon. I don't think there would be any argument that the deeper (higher) the tank the better its looks but how much is reasonable (for you) to spend on lights (fittings/power/bulbs)
ghostface
go deep dude! will look awesome... you can just use a mask and snorkel to access the bottom.......
jetskisteve
the majority of tanks are 600, much deeper looks great but a pain to work on & costs more with lighting
Bluetom
what about going deep i.e 700 then setting up for 600 full of water, that way you can go deeper once you want to buy 400w MH's etc.
Ira
I wouldn't go over 600 for any tank unless it's big enough to climb into...
Pies
My tank is 730, and its a pain. My old tank was 650, was a pain. 600 is the sweet spot, form comfort and reasonable lighting options. Pie

ghostface
measure your arm. prob shouldnt go deeper than the length of your fingers to armpit. you will end up with your hands in tank a fair bit more than you would like, so it would be nice to actually be able to reach the bottom..
