Doc Holiday
has anyone noticed that these units are quite noisey? I kind of knew this was a problem with these powerheads but i was being optimistic in the hope that it wouldn't be a major problem. Does anyone have any tips on quieting them down a bit? chimera
i had to "whack" start one of mine. banged it on the side of the tank stand to get it to run then chuck it in the tank
lduncan
Unplugging it from the wall should do the trick.
chimera
i usually find throwing it against the wall works best
lduncan
How many times are you supposed to twirl it around your head while holding it from the power cord before you let it go into the wall?
chimera
depends with what force you swing it. the manual states 3 times but i find using a good hammer throwing technique, i can get it going with 1 swing (and a brick wall)
misnoma
I have 2x820's and they seem quiet as?
chimera
back on topic, i had 2 x M1100's. one was whisper quiet and worked flawlessly, the other needed a whack to get going and was noisey (rattley) i sold the quiet one and still have the (faulty) one in my fuge. take it back to the shop you bought it from, they are cheap for a reason
Ira
Mine's quiet and never had any trouble starting. Well, if it does make any noise it's drowned out by the rest of the tank's noise.
jetskisteve
seems the odd one can be noisey but like skimmers they are bloody good value for money
Brianemone
the only problem i have with mine (3 actually) first of all they need to be quite a bit below the water level other wise they suck down the air from the surface (i suppose thats normal for streams as well) second it doesnt tend to start autonomously when i unplug it or if the power is cut for other reasons (babies pulling out plugs to put their fingers in the sockets ) third they arent controlable. Ira
They're controllable...Not like on a wavemaker, but they do have the flow adjustment.
Brianemone
one day when i get enough money ill employ some student to adjust the flow on them every 15 mins and to turn it off when im feeding
jetskisteve
spend another 1k then

Brianemone
the problem for me is the jump in price between the two. i can go full out and buy streams and im sure i would be happy with them. but thats 1000 more for a deposit (not that house prices are looking attractive at the moment) priorities i guess. wait which is more important? dogmatix
very happy with mine completely quiet except for the odd time on start up, and as mentioned sometimes need tweaking to start when turned back on

chimera
but don't have the spare cash at the moment. cash has never been 'spare' since labour have been in
lduncan
looks like at least three more years of the crap too.
Pies
I have 3 streams in my tank, 2 over 2 years old, 24/7. In all that time i havn't had to kick start any of them... And they are what, 4x more powerfull? Ohhh and did I mention they work every time, without having to bang them against a brick wall... Ira
And they are what, 4x more powerfull? And they're...What, 8x more expensive? And even if mine ever needed help getting started it's not a big deal, it's usually on constantly anyway, so it's really no big deal if I have to give it a tap to get it going after unplugging it once every few weeks. Pies
And they're...What, 8x more expensive? Not even close. They are approx $450ea, for the 12000L hr model with the driver so you can run them from a wavemaker. There is also a 12000L model that doesn't pulse, which is cheaper (about $320 i think). No disrespect to the Seios, but be fair when comparing them to the Streams. It can't be a good sign to know you have to knock the pump to make it go. Can it? Ira
OK, 6.5 times the price for the one with the wavemaker or 4.5 times without. But then, Why spend 4.5 times the price for 4 times the flow, but do they make something in the 4000lph range if that's all you need? Or would we be expected to pay 4.5 times as much money for too much flow?
Pies
Too much flow? Surley you jest Don't forget the one with the driver can be adjusted from 30%-100% too. So maybee you can use it now, then if you need more flow, you can crank it up. Reliability, versatility, flexibility and power all in one convienant package (Tune, can I have a job?).
