Gbangr
Hey im just starting to set up my second 6 foot tank which i am getting a silver arowana and was thinking of adding 2 oscars and a jack dempsey. From what ive read its best to let the arowana get established and grow to around 12 inches before adding other boisterous fish is this correct? Just after some input from people with a similar setup.
Fruju
Small arowanas are fragile and are likely to be harassed by aggressive cichlids. No one way to do things, but I agree with growing the arowana to at least 20cm before adding some young oscars and the JD. Definitely don't wait until the arowana is too large as they can be equally if not more aggressive once they establish a territory, and will then resist the addition of other large fish. Silver arowana will eventually outgrow that tank IMO. Need at least 8ft by 3ft to accommodate one long term. Silverdollarboy2
Adrienne
Agree with Fruju. Also when adding the young oscars do make sure they are not small enough to fit in the arowanas mouth.
