Tread50
Hi, I am currently getting a new tank made up 1000x800x600mm around 480ltrs. I was thinking about stocking ideas and Geophagus Surinamensis came up. I really like the look of these fish and was wondering how many I could comfortably have in this tank? It will be aquascaped with a sand substrate, drift wood and a few rocks.image off the net.
Caryl
These are a good sized, chunky, fish and grow up to 25cm. You will need really good filtration for these, which will also affect your numbers.I have never kept them myself but I found a post from someone who has and recommends 4 - 5 in a 200L tank when they are small but 300L+ for that number. So 5 - 6 would be your maximum I guess. They are apparently good with other fish but not cichlids.
Ira
I'd say 2-3 would be good for a tank that size. Leave you some room for other fish too. Mine were never very aggressive except a bit to their own species. Probably one of my two favorite fish.
Tread50
I was thinking 5-6 species only tank. Maybe have some small plecos in there as well.
Adrienne
Try sending Hovmoller or DavidR a message for more detailed information. I think both have kept these but I may well be wrong. Silverdollarboy2
