Colour_genes
Like most of the red-coloured plants, it needs high light levels to maintain its colour. And it is not a true aquatic plant in any case, so it may be starting to show you that it is unhappy. You would do better to grow it emersed. Benjansss
It's black not red has lots of light and if it's unhappy why would it have loads of new growth
Adrienne
It's black not red has lots of light and if it's unhappy why would it have loads of new growth Colour-genes did not say it was red. They said 'like red' meaning it has the same high lighting requirements as red. Loads of growth in the wrong colour does not make a happy plant, however as most grows and then rots after a month you have done well keeping it alive for two. Benjansss
Only the very oldest leaves have rotted the rest hasn't inculding the roots and stem
Shilo
Although it is sometimes sold as an aquatic plant, its not and will slowly die off underwater. The stem and roots will eventually rot as well. I have never heard of it thriving or multiplying in an aquarium, when I tried it slowly died off after a few months and that is with strong lighting, ferts and CO2.Its a good plant for around pond margins etc so if you want it to survive then why not grow it at the top of the tank with only the roots submerged - a bit like Potho's? Benjansss
I have no idea how to do that and I've read mondo grass will sometimes survive so I will just keep it as it is for now and if it starts to die then I'll take it out
