barlibear
Hi I am setting up a 124L tank soon and want some opinions on canister filters for it? What would you go with (with a limited budget). I was thinking maybe a aquaone cf1000 but read somewhere that they are prone to leaking? Or a sunsun - everyone seems to be talking about them online positively and they are a bit cheaper? Or is it worth trying to find a second hand eheim or fluval or something. Thanks! #!CrunchBang
I ran a CF1200 on a 110L tank, you could go with that. Not heard anything about leaking
Ira
I've heard occasional claims of leaks with CF1200s. I think they've all been user error.
Baroness
I just got a CF1200. Very happy with it. It doesn't put out as much flow as I was expecting, so would be fine in a smaller tank. My tank is 180 L.
Adrienne
The second or third shipment of CF1200s in several years back had a fault - a minute crack in one of the taps hence the leaking reputation. Hasn't happened since to my knowledge. I've used all the CF range and would go 1200 on anything over about 90 litres. The flow is not massive by the time there is media in the canister but they do run well and parts are easy to come by as so many people have them. I'm also currently running a sun sun back up to my FX5 - runs well. Ironically it also came in with a cracked tap.
camtang
+1 on the cf1200, I use one on my 180L and it works great.

Rouseabout
:iag: I have been running two CF1200s on my 260L malawi tank for over a year with zero issues.
kinnadian
Sunsun are cheaper than aquaone and you can get much higher turnover for the same price, plus with packed media. Reliability is pretty good, I've had 1 going over a year and another over 3. On the otherhand I found Aquaone CF flow dropped off significantly after 6 months (even with cleaning). Both are good, just make sure you oversize the flow required.
