Silverdollarboy2
I've been reading a few post in this section and now I think my koura tank is too small. The tank is 37l x 30w x 30h, is it too small and if so what is the best tank size for a koura? kiwiraka
Koura arent big waste producers as long as you arent overfeeding it and it can comfortably move around it should be fine. As it grows you may need a larger tank though.
Adrienne
Reading this post and your previous one makes me think that we should look at adding a recommended tank size to the native profiles on our website I will see if it can be done on the new site once it is up and running Silverdollarboy2

kiwiraka
Hey Kiwraka. What do you think of working out all the tank sizes then sending them to the admins to add to the database? Silverdollarboy2

kiwiraka
I would recommend excluding mudfish and shortjaw kokopu to discourage removal from the wild. But good idea, I will add to your list later when I get inside
Silverdollarboy2
Okay I'll edit it. I just used all the fish that are already in the database.
kiwiraka
I'd say the minimum volume per full-grown fish in a well filtered tank would be...Banded kokopu: 100 Bluegill bully: Maybe 15 litres? Only suitable tank mates would probably be torrent-fishCommon bully: 30 litresCommon smelt: 30 litresCran's bully: 20 litresDwarf galaxias: 20 litresGiant bully: 50 litresGiant kokopu: 200 litresInanga: 30 litresKoaro: 100 litresKoura: 60 litresLong-fin eel: Maybe 1000 litresRedfin bully: 20 for a female maybe upto fifty for a male for space for his territoryShort-fin eel: 600 litresSpotted eel: 800 litresTorrentfish: 60 litres?Upland bully: 20 litres Edited September 5, 2015 by kiwiraka Silverdollarboy2

kiwiraka
Good point, I imagine you'd be correct about Dwarf Galaxias and Bluegills I don't think any of the diadromous galaxiids or smelt should be kept in anything under 4 foot long, smelt and inanga may be alright in three foot but if kept in a tank that short I'd recommend it should also be at least two feet deep (front to back) Also maybe we should just put in the minimum dimensions because a 100 litre tall tank would be useless... Silverdollarboy2
I'd say the bullies need about a 2 footer,Giant bullies 3 foot, the eels 5 foot+ , torrentfish 3 foot? ,dwarf galaxias/ bluegills 1 foot kiwiraka

Silverdollarboy2
Sorry I was in town. Looks good, the dwarf galaxias could probably comfortably live in 1 x 1.5 feet though.Edit: I see the tank sizes are now up.Thanks Edited September 5, 2015 by Silverdollarboy2 kiwiraka
