junglejim
How many hours a day do you have to run the sump pump for? I can't get the bloody thing to be quiet and don't want the pump running in the evenings. Would it be ok to run for 18 hours a day?
Totara
Um, if your talking about the pump putting water back into your display tank, as far as I know, you cant turn it off at all. Other wise the sump will overflow, and more importantly nothing is getting filtered.
Adrienne
The sump pump is your filter so it needs to be on 24/7. If its not then you will have major issues with water quality.
kinnadian
What is your current pump? I would recommend buying a quieter one. Jebao DC range is quiet, so are Syncra pumps. Eheim 1260 if you can afford it.
livingart
Have you tried sitting it on a piece of sponge?

What noise is it making? you cant turn it off at all. Other wise the sump will overflow If that's the case then you're doing it wrong. It's not usually that hard to make sure you have enough space for whatever water will end up draining out of the tank before the siphon breaks. Like any system, it should fail safe. Not "Fail soaking the carpet with saltwater and ruining the floor" Because that would be stupid.
junglejim
Thanks guys, No it's the drain garggling noise that is a pain in the arse.
hovmoller
Thanks guys, No it's the drain garggling noise that is a pain in the arse. Google "herbie" or "bean animal" overflow. Only way to get a completely silent overflow/drain. If you are unable to have two or three drain pipes then make the one you have a "durso". Best you can do with only one drain.
