morfin
So am going away Friday morning and back Tuesday arvo, and the person house sitting is not going to be trusted to change the water. I'm worried about not doing a water change for that length of time, especially with discus in the tank. Is there a company that offers a water change service in auckland that anyone knows? camtang
Its only 5 days all should be fine if you do a water change the day before you go.

Discusguru
You can ask the house sitter to ring me if there is a problem. Ron
David R
If it's only five days I wouldn't even bother getting someone to feed them. Healthy fish will be fine for that length of time (and longer) and feeding will only increase the risk of someone cocking it up and increase the need for a water change. What's wrong with your tank that you need to do water changes that frequently? My suggestion for that short a time is to do:Nothing.
morfin
I have discus so like to change my water twice a week. There's nothing wrong with it, just like it to be clean. Thanks Ron, appreciate it

Couldn't agree more Twice a week water changes for adult fish is just a waste of water IMO.
Barry the beaver
I pretty much never did water changes in my 150l planted community tank. I just topped up evaporation losses. my water was like gin and my corys were spawning every other week. you just need a well balanced in tank ecosystem imo
morfin
Thanks all. Glad to know the tank will be fine in my absence. We all make our own decisions about what we like with our tanks, and I make mine too.my discus aren't adults, but I feel good Bout my water changes, why I do them and the pleasure I get out of interacting with my tank. I'm also lucky in that my beautiful garden benefits from the water changes rather than using the sprinkler in summer which I don't consider a waste. So. Good to know five days isn't an issue, for the rest nice to know what works for you.
Amelia
If I need to have someone else feed my fish for a few days I use daily pill organizers and fill them with the right amount of food for each day -- that way they can't cock it up lol. Probably one of my best ever ideas!
