dhindry
I found a good solution the other day. Go to your local pet shop, and get one of those plastic heater covers. A small one will do. Take the end piece, (the piece that is enclosed at one end) and slip it over the intake on the power head. Still allows plenty of water through but not the fish. angelfish
problem- my powerheads have a slit 8mm wide running horizontally across top of powerhead. good idea, but wont work for me.thanks though.
cracker
Chop off any excess plastic bits and use the heater guards mentioned above and use aquarium silicon to glue the guard onto the powerhead. Works great.
Caryl
What sort of pantyhose you ask? Why fishnet ones of course
Alan
What about those plastic hair curlers, slightly adapted, with some filter-floss as a filter/plug. Alan
Fishy_matt
with my powerhead i chopped out a small section of onion bag, the meshy plastic ones and glued that over the intake. Day after doing that i came home to find my blue tang stuck to it, luckily he survived
angelfish
thanks for the ideas guys. today i rubber banded some cut up fluval foam pads to the powerheads. they filled up with rubbish pretty quickly though, bugger it.
skuzza
I use panty hose in my power filter to hold the phos remover.I think it is nylon but arnt they all made out of the same stuff.
jetskisteve
Take care if you use foan or wool type stuff as it will need cleaning very regularly(sp?) or it will turn biological?
angelfish
foam pad got clogged up too easily, so ive tried the heater gaurd idea. i cut a strip off the gaurd and siliconed it over the gap. seems very good, havnt tried it running yet as the silicone has to set. will try to get some photos tomorrow. thanks for all your help! angelfish
just thought id show you all what ive done. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v709/bjordan/2005_0405tank0006.jpg hopefully it doesnt block the power head up too much, should work better than foam rubber banded over the hole though. reef
I dont think that will work, also a heater guard is no good. anemoes get into anything . i have lost enought of them to know, You need to place the pump high up away from the anemoe and hopefully he will settle in a good spot far from the pump. cracker
The topic was more for fish than anemones nice pic! just like I wouldve done!

Alan
If your floss was collecting detrious, that means the water was 'dirty'. That dirt now just gets recycled thru the powerhead. Clean the floss regularly and you'll find the cleaning times will gradually get further and further apart. Alan
angelfish
thanks guys. dont have to worry about anaenomes yet , thank god, fish are hard enough at the moment! as the tank water is still quite dirty from the dead rock cycle i did, ive got floss in the sump collecting floaties. i change it every 2nd day (so theres no excess nitrate buid up).
