samuel90
7 Peacocks arriving tomorrow! Talked to my LFS today, and he said it may be useful to bring them in to him for 24 hours in his sump tank, to rid them of any disease they may be bringing in. Is this necessary? I am excited to get them into their new home.... but if you all think it is worth it, I can wait another 24 hours I guess. Let me know! ryanjury
Absolutely no point at all, as living art has suggested there is no disease that will disappear in 24 hours and most wont disappear on their own, quarantine is usually for 2-3weeks min, and the worst place to do it would be in a sump which would feed any diseases etc through any tank it was hooked up to. What other fish do you have and do you have an empty tank to put them in for a while? What sort of peacocks did you get?

camtang
That sounds like a pretty fishy offer to me. Especially for them to be put in the sump as a quaritine. Nice list of fish
ryanjury
Looking at the list of fish you are getting I think I know where you are getting the peacocks from so you shouldn't have any disease issues with them. I agree, it is a nice stocking list it will be interesting to see how they all get along, hopefully it doesn't turn in to world war 3 in your tank, but you have a nice list of different fish there and getting them all at the same time and hopefully around the same size should increase the chances it will work. alanmin4304
I seldom used to quarantine fish at all. I would buy from reputable sellers and preferably watch them swimming in a tank before buying. Fish can carry some diseases asymptomatically and that disease will develop with the stress of relocation but those diseases can be treated pretty easily. That would be the silliest advice I have heard in a while.

Yeah I totally didn't think there would be anything wrong! The person has been very knowledgable and helpful, so I do think they are cared for and healthy I have plenty of rocks for them to hide, but they are all getting along famously. Just one big yellow who keeps everyone in check But I don't think he is a bully.... just the man of the tank

samuel90
What LFS was this? Stupidest advice I've heard lol Wouldn't like to name names as he has been extremely helpful Maybe he just wanted the males to impregnate his females! haha
ryanjury
Wouldn't like to name names as he has been extremely helpful Maybe he just wanted the males to impregnate his females! haha Unless he has the matching females (which he wont for all the strains you have because I know the guy who is selling them is only selling males) then again he is stupid if that was his plan because he would only produce hybrids. I wouldn't place much stock on any advice this guy offers if he recommends a 24 hour quarantine in his sump tanks.
Insect Direct
some fishfarms routinely medicate prior to dispatch ... maybe the guy was just offering to do what he thought best?
