Hi everyone.

wow! a place filled with kiwi aquarists....this is unbelievable.

i'm originally from Singapore, where virtually everyone's a fish fanatic.

It's not often that u meet people with a keen interest in aquarium fishes down here.

hmm. what else should i say??

ermm, i've got a 350 gal community tank, housing a giant gourami, an arowana, a red devil, 3 tinfoil barbs, a few angels, a pleco. 2 oscars and a couple of stripped fishes whose name's i can't recall...

i'm about to finish the vet degree at Massey this yr...although we didn;t cover much on fish diseases, i've been reading extensively on all aspects of fish medicine, n have quite a bit of experience diagnosing n treating fish diseases.....no surprise, but i'm really into the disease n medical stuff....it really gets me going...

anyway, hope to see more people adopting fishes as pets in NZ...they're really cool! i've had a hard time convincing friends that they r as rewarding as dogs n cats n horses etc. happy fish keeping everyone!

Wayne :D:D

Hi there Wayne and welcome to the fishroom.

There are a lot of fishkeepers in NZ but they tend to be quiet. Perhaps you can be of help to those with sick fish questions. It is hard to find a vet who knows anything about fish at all as it doesn't seem to be part of their training. I don't see why not, they are animals. Even the basics would do but they don't even know that.

Hi there Wayne,

Always nice to see new faces on the forum, and by the look of your post you have a fair collection of fish there plus a nice big tank.

Good luck with the degree, and look forward to seeing more of you on the forum.

How long have you kept fish, and what took you so long to find us ? :)

Regards,

Bill (Pegasus)

Hi there guys.

yeah, agree with ya Carly. fishes just arn't emphasized enough in the degree. otherwise, there's just too much to cover. u've got birds, reptiles, amphibians.......n it's not like the states or perhaps the UK, where people have valuable fishes that r worth spending time n money on vet services...

Cheers Pegasus, i'll b needing lots of luck in the exams in a couple of weeks time. i've kept fish for about ermmm probably close to 10yrs or so. well, i've been involved at arofanatics.com, a forum for arowana-keepers for a yr or so......it never once occured to me that we've got local fish forums here! let alone clubs, activites n stuff! wow indeed!! :D

If by 'Palmy' you mean Palmerston North, there is a fish club

re-forming here at the moment and I'm sure you'd be most welcome

to come along to meetings and so forth. We're always looking

for new keen members.

Drop me a line ([email protected]) if you want more info.

Andrew.

Spread the word my good man.... Spread the word :)

There's a couple of Arrowana sites in the "Useful Links/Technical) section.

Hi Wayne welcome to the NZ fishroom.

Hope you are tought more about the lower four legged animals than the vets around here. I take my dogs to an local vet and if he can tell me whats wrong with them he said "wait an see." That wait an see cost my dogs 3 eyes. One good eye between the two. Not flaming you Wayne, I have respect for some vets, student at KSU Vet Collage. Again welcone :P:P

Not sure if i can make it Bruce.

Probably not actually since exams r on the following wk.

Hi Angel 2, yeah...things sometimes go wrong..It probably was some form of communication breakdown too....

The wait-n-see approach is justified for some situations, esp when the next step is costly or invasive to the animal......but yeah, u know, it always appears different on hindsight.

8) Hi Wayne from the sunny south. Good to see a new face, n all the old ones too of course.

Great to see an almost vet interested in the fish side of things. I have only seen one ever fish operation, where a large goldfish was sewn up. Successfully. ALL THE BEST for your upcoming exams.

I have found that here, there is a friendly crew, so once again welcome from the sunny mainland. 8)
