nudge
I am moving house soon and the new spot is on rainwater so not suitable for my tangs. There is an old 200l plastic drum at the new place, its been used for plant rubbish by the looks. I want to use it to store water in that i have buffered for wc. Looks like an old fertiliser drum what can i use to clean it properly so it will be suitable as a wc storage?
David R
Without knowing what was in it it is hard to say if it will be safe, can always try it, test the water, then maybe try it with a small tank with 1-2 fish as a test run? Otherwise there is a guy out Ruakaka way on the main road who always has drums and barrels for sale at the end of his driveway. Let me know if you want to borrow any jerry cans or plastic bins for the move.

F15hguy
actually on the same thing, I have been offered a plastic drum that held teat cream for cows (yeah they sell it in 200L) (sercret tip, its the same stuff as they call 'moo goo' in the beauty shops), would that do anything?, its better than the fertilizer option i'm assuming. I've got a 200L drum from the guy in Albany (Barrys Barrels?), it had olives in it and took a fair bit of washing (and people still chuckle that it has "black large" written on it...), but at least it is food safe. Not sure what the Ruakaka ones have been used for.

I,d assume that would be ok a few washes with soapy water and then a coupla rinses should make it tickety boo, does that mean you want to flick it? I think that was the guy i saw on tm david, only allows pick ups though and don't think i will be down auckland ways for a while yet, if i can make a trip out ruakaka i will see if i can find him wondering if it would prob be fertilizer drums being its mostly farms out there
livingart
teat creams are usually an iodine based antiseptic ointment http://www.bb.net.nz/barrels_plastic_steel.htm
