RnB
I did not cut and paste the availibility coloumn..... These guys seem to regularily stock the same stuff, but def not everything in there 600 item list! I am sure that you/reef have had a few unwelcome surprises when opening boxes.... lots of things add to the cost, packing, documentation, freight, maf fees, losses, importers time and capital setup etc........ All of these things still necessary on cultured corals too!!!!! As pies has stated several times, NZ hobists have setup MAF Qual just to stock there own tank! if you import 2k work of product, it would be 8k retail........... what has always made me scratch my head is the wide range that the fish sell for in the retail channel...... us$2 fish sells for NZ$59.95 but a $8 fish sells for NZ$200. but that fish does not always cost any more to transport etc... ok some do, but not all of them........ guess i will understand once i start importiong and have to calculate my actual costs etc to set prices. suphew
Not sure I agree with the 'see before you buy' comments, most of us know what we want so don't need to browse. Buying a fish that has been in an extra tank (or two, or three) and had to adjust different water parameters, exposed to an extra bunch of fish with possible diseases, stressed by have lots of people looking at them with nowhere to hide. Against paying half for a fish that came from the same place......
BK
One day (i think within 5 years) you won't be able to bring in anything that hasn't been farm rised. It's just a matter of time with the goverment we've got. and really it's not a good look for the reefs. Does any of the importers/agents put any money into reef restortion. if not if could be even sooner. Lets just take anything out of the sea and then it would be real cheap wouldn't that be great for people who like to buy at the lowest price. Bring the average price down just means that the reefs won't last as long and that farm rised fags/fish can't compete but hay the price was real low so every one can have a tank and it doesn't matter if they die cause i can get another one real cheap. Cheap cheap cheap does matter cause I can get it real cheap.
Pies
BK - I don't think your right about the importation stopping. When will happen over seas (Hawaii for example) is more govenment regulation will make it hard, this more expensive. All this talk about renewable resource etc. And in all fairness, while Asia and the pacific islands still have fish and coral, they will continue to sell them. The people in these countries are poor and taking a non-edable fish off the reef to put food on there table will always make sure thats the case. I hope that more breeding/propigation farms/ventures do become more common place. Pies
BK
Just because me can see a reason for it to continue does mean that it won't become a polictical issue and then it comes down to votes and not science. Sorry about spelling but try to get work done b4 wekend.

RnB
missed that, but it is really funny thinking about it......... moderaters here seem very active I have only ever seen one post moderated out of www.crew.org.nz in fact take a read of this thread http://www.crew.org.nz/phorum/read.php? ... 517&t=5517 its a whole lot of AKL sailings bagging our national federation..... if you watch it, its descends then climbs back........ recently my posts have been removed from here, yet I have recieved no warnings...... I really feel if its important enough to remove the post, then there should be a warning issued. lots of posts where removed. lots of people should have got warnings. Pegasus
I really feel if its important enough to remove the post, then there should be a warning issued. lots of posts where removed. lots of people should have got warnings. For a group of members with such a vast amount of intelligence, many of you "still" fail to read this..: http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?t=3805 Especially the bit that says..: You agree that the webmaster, administrator and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit. Read through the posts.. Very few have not gone into a slanging match, or finished up being a podium for some commercial gain.. You guys were given this forum to share your interests in Marines, not as a place to constantly argue among yourselves. Be grateful you still have a forum to argue on, as you could finish up losing it the way you are all going. Bill.
cees
...its a whole lot of AKL sailings bagging our national federation..... perhaps you could read the guidelines again or search the fishroom for the term 'family oriented' http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewto ... y+oriented Maybe you will than understand why I will not allow 'bagging' of anything. recently my posts have been removed from here, yet I have recieved no warnings...... If you believe you should have received a warning than perhaps you should not post here anymore. I try hard to delete posts which I believe are not appropriate for this forum. I know the other moderators do the same. I should not have to do this but some of you (a few) leave me no choice. I don't always send a warning. The site has losts valuable members because of a small group of people who are unable to respect others in their posts and that's a shame really. HummingBird
I know a 12 year old who keeps fish and if he went into Jansens he wouldn't be impressed if the person serving him didn't know which fish was which. I fail to see how relating a similar story to that would be inapropriate for a 14 year old or considered 'bagging' a place. Not if you didn't put a slant on it and told simply what happened, which is what I did and got my post removed for.
cees
Can we please close this topic. It's not the general subject of this topic that required moderating. Post have been removed because specific statements in them were deemed inappropriate and in conflict with the guidelines. Please move on. I will. HummingBird
Yeah but my reply just then mentions what I mentioned before so you'd better remove it too
Pies
Hummingbird - Cees is just trying to keep the peace, I suspect your post was removed as part of a 'wholesale clearance'. I doubt it was targeted at you directly. As for you experance with Jansens, from what I saw of Dogmatix post, he seemed quite interested in hearing what you had to say, and I assume to ensure it doesn't happen again (he is in a position to do something about it). Hopefully the mods on the board recognise the value in you and others sharing the experances with stores/products/people. This thread did get a little ugly (not you) and they went into damage control mode, I am sure they removed the posts for the greater good not to punish you or anyone else directly. I encourage you to share your experances, good or bad, I intend to do the same. Its part of the leaning process and the reason why we come to this site. petplanet
Petplanet - how you feel about the trademe fish tank vendors? Great, sold heaps. Had to buy in bulk to get a good price of the wholesaler. Priced lower than EVERYONE. The damn things just didn't move through my shop. Put them on Trademe and 90% that have sold have either sold through Trademe or they have tracked down the shop because of it. If it was not for Trademe the tank deal would have screwed me over. Major (borrowed) cash outlay.
Warren
Hummingbird - Cees is just trying to keep the peace, I suspect your post was removed as part of a 'wholesale clearance'. I doubt it was targeted at you directly. This is often the case. To make a thread look consistant sometimes non-offending posts get taken too. In the future we will advise if this is the case. It would be nice not to have to... As Cees said, let's move on...
