Joutei
Hey guys, My juwel rio 180 light head units went bust today. Replaced the T5 Lights, still nothing. I called up HFF , replacement unit is going to cost $310 OUCH. Do you guys know any other alternatives at a cheaper price. Cheers
livingart
try an electrician to find out what is wrong with it then they may be able to source alternative parts locally
F15hguy
have you checked the starter unit???
Adrienne
You cant check it yourself as its a sealed unit.
SamH
You cant check it yourself as its a sealed unit. No such thing as a sealed unit if you know where to push, pry and unscrew
Adrienne
ah yes however that is a job for a qualified electrician!
SamH
ah yes however that is a job for a qualified electrician! Oh yeah, I forgot the disclaimer  That'll still be cheaper than replacing the unit, the issue is almost always the starter.

Joutei
Yeah I've been doing alot of reading, cant seem to find a way to open this unit. Must be glued on. Still worth getting an electrican to look at it? Ive been looking at alternative light head units aswell Any suggestions from this page http://www.hollywoodfishfarm.co.nz/prod ... gs/m/1238/
Adrienne
I use the Glo T5HO units and they are great, The Hagen are good if you need or want to put lighting in a hood type situation.
rabid
http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/to ... light-bar/ this might help, seems to be a common issue with the juwels
Joutei
@Adrienne Will the glo t5HO fit on my juwel rio 180 ? as in length wise. @Rabid Im sure this only applies to the T8 unit. T5 unit cant be opened up easily. thanks anyway though
Adrienne
It sits on the bracing of the tank or hangs suspended from the ceiling. You would have to modify it to fit it inside the hood as I don't believe you have bracing for it to sit on. I think that in general it is as cheap to replace the whole tank as it is to mess around with lights and lids.
phoenix44
They have electronic ballasts. My GLO (Hagen) unit stopped working 1 month outside its 2 year Guarantee. The supplier is replacing it after a quick email to them :happy2:
Tasha 1
Hi does anyone know if there is another alternative to put a different covered lid with light that would fit on right size Juwel tank
