DennisP
- 1/3 Water to oxygen ratio in bag - 1 Fish per bag? (Dwarf puffers) - Heatpack - Where do I get one? - Poly Box - Package with newspaper - Use NZ Couriers - Make account on website and book a pick up time? Or drop at post shop? This part I am unsure of.
Likoma
This is my take on shipping fish. Not saying that it`s foolproof but it has been very successful for me. Heat pads are preferable with NZ conditions. http://www.poret-aquarium-filter.co.nz/shipping-fish.php
DennisP
Thanks, But how do I go about actually getting the fish picked up/sent? Can I go through a post shop? Do I need to get the courier to come to me? etc etc
Joe
Thanks, But how do I go about actually getting the fish picked up/sent? Can I go through a post shop? Do I need to get the courier to come to me? etc etc You have to take the box to the courier depot, and do it just before they close to insure that the fish are in the box for as little time as possible. Also you can put more water in the bag and more fish too. For small tetras/rasboras you could probably put up to 15-20 fish per bag depending on the size of the bag and fish. Those dwarf puffers are really small so you can put them all in the same bag.

Godly3vil
I have used post haste to get fish shipped to me, they're really good and reliable. Good prices as well for over night courier.
F15hguy
heat packs available from outdoors stores as pocket warmers. dwarf puffers 1 per bag or 4or more per bag, they will peck at each other otherwise better to drop it off yourself, just one more thing to not worry about
Joe
Also remember to put "Live Tropical Fish Handle With Care" on top of the box, and also write "Do Not Chill" or something like that, because I heard a story on Fishkeepers where someone purchased a colony of Tropheus sp. and they all arrived dead. The guy spoke to the courier company and they said that they refrigerated the fish
F15hguy
worst one I've seen was a full poly box returned to us with an apology for somehow reducing the whole box to 1 inch tall

smidey
what size are your bags? i have always put around half water in each bag and up to 6 fish (up to 5cm) in each bag but that is the larger bags. always Double bag and use a heat pack. I always use Post Haste, never had an issue with them.
Ira
worst one I've seen was a full poly box returned to us with an apology for somehow reducing the whole box to 1 inch tall Reminds me of a story from a guy once. Sent off a transmission well packaged in a wooden crate. After a while and the buyer complaining that it hadn't arrived he got a message, "Could you please come pick up your cardboard box, it's leaking." Jennifer
I wrote an article on shipping fish for the next AW magazine. Might see about eventually getting it put on the main site so everyone can see it.
