Sheepsnana
Any ideas? This was him a couple of days ago, no sign of it. My last water test came back with higher than desired levels of nitrate. I have since been doing 50% water changes twice a week, rather than 25% weekly. I had hoped that these would help, but I have not had a chance to get the water tested again since.
Sheepsnana
Found this http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=49219 but I don't think mine is this bad yet. My pleco hasn't been in with a turtle, so I'm really wondering where the hell he has caught a virus :dunno: IF that is what it is? :dunno:
LYNDYLOO
The pics in that link look shocking Here's hoping your Pleco doesn't get that bad, maybe Furan 2 might be worth a try, I know it's an antibiotic and they don't usually work on something viral, but I guess it's worth a try. Good Luck Lynda
alanmin4304
I would try furan2 as it could be bacterial. Doesn't look like typical columnaris but is the nearest I can think of.
F15hguy
doesn't look quite right, but maybe a fungal infection on a small wound caused by chewing on something sharp????
blueether
not a burn from a heater + infection?
Sheepsnana
I don't think it's a heater burn. If it is, how should I treat it? Current plan is to move him to the quarantine tank (with is heating up as we speak) and dose with melafix (anti bacterial, not as potent as furan 2). I've give that a week with daily water changes and see how it goes.
Sheepsnana
Here's the latest photo's. Can anyone see an improvement or should I change the meds at the end of this dosing cycle? Here's a vid, hopefully I can get some more info from someone more informed?
Sophia
it looks like he is morphing into a courgette-nose  PM Jennifer and see if she knows what it is
Sheepsnana
Lymphocystis Three possible outcomes: 1) It will sort itself out between 6 and 12 months, where the pleco will develop an immunity and the growth will fall off. 2) The growth will grow too quickly and cover the plecos mouth, causing him to starve to death. (Actually uncommon, yuss!) 3) The fight with the growth will lower his immune system and he will suffer from a secondary fatal infection. Hoping for number 1... really, REALLY hoping.
