sandman
Hopefully this is the right area for this question. I found a piece of driftwood in the sea a week or so ago.I want to put it in my fresh cold water tank. Question how long would I need to soak it in fresh water before i place it in the tank.It is not very big, maybe about 500gms dry.It was pretty well soaked in the sea as it wasn't floating much as it was sinking
Ira
Question how long would I need to soak it in fresh water before i place it in the tank. About as long as it takes you to get it maneuvered into a good spot in the tank. Say 15 seconds?

Always take what Ira says with a grain of salt, it will take at least twice that long to get it in the correct position, unless you are as gifted as he is. jackp
You don't need to soak driftwood that has come from saltwater, though it's not a bad idea to give it a good clean
Dachende
With any driftwood or rocks I pick up from the beach, I usually pour boiling water over them just to be sure to nastys come with it, then put them in the tank. If the wood isn't bouyant, then no need to soak it

Sheepsnana
Soaking Driftwood Mine still has not sunk. I have tied it to a big flat rock using fishing nylon. Looks cool when it's trying to float but can't get away.
