Sheepsnana
Hi All, My little brother bought me a Kribensis on the weekend. I have put the Krib into my community tank with guppies, gourami, swordtails, and neon tetras. My local pet store warned me that "my guppies would be toast", as the Krib will be very nippy at the tails. Other than chasing a couple of fry, which easily got away, the Krib has kept to himself (as I expected). My LFS had me very worried when they warned me about mixing them, so I have my other tank on standby ready to move him if I have to. (My LFS wouldn't sell him to me until they were confident I had a backup plan - they're awesome! ) Has anyone else mixed Kribs with guppies? Can I get some success or failure stories please? hovmoller
One krib will be peaceful with other fish.. your guppies will not be toast (it might eat fry though) But you could face trouble if you get a pair of kribs and they start spawning.. then your guppies might take a beating. Depends on the pair though. Some (like mine) breed happily in my community tank and only defend their little area while a friend of mine has a pair as well and the kribs chase his guppies around the whole tank in defense of their territory leaving all his guppies with nipped fins. Sheepsnana
Ok, so were your fish all added at the same time, or were they added after the guppies? I have heard some cases of the Kribs ONLY getting aggressive during spawning, when they are ensuring the other fish stay away from their young. Then there's some fish who get nippy at everyone... My guppies stay near the surface, with the strong current from the filter. My Krib stays near the bottom / mid, around the driftwood. They seem content to leave each other alone, at least for now. hovmoller
I don't have guppies, my friend does.. If you're only planning to keep that one krib then I's sure there won't be problems... if you add another so you have a male and a female then there might be trouble. Kribs will defend a territory (small or big depends on the individual I guess) but I have never heard of kribs being fin nippers in general.. Vinnie
From all the Kribs we have kept, we have never had any problems, including with guppy's - unless they have paired up or a female has found a spot to call hers. Then the just chase away anything that comes near there spot. Haven't ever seen ours nip or kill anything though, not to say some one else might not ever had a blood thirsty krib, but we haven't had issues. Hope this helps
Sheepsnana
Well I've had her a week (I THINK she's a girl) and she's getting along swimmingly with everyone. No1's annoying her, she's not annoying anyone else, and it's still my platinum's that are eating my guppy fry, not my Krib.
Sheepsnana
Well I've added a couple more kribs, and they aren't interested in the guppies at all. One of the kribs will occasionally chase one of the others, but there's no nipping involved. All in all, I'm glad they all get along. zeebee
I would have been more worried about the gourami. Does he leave the gourami alone?
Sheepsnana
Yes, the gourami and the kribs get along fine. The gourami are slightly larger
