henward
as well as these, i have 2 long fin BNs - cant catch them so decided to keep it. small tiny normal sailfin and a golden black eye bn - kinda grew on me:) here are my larger plecs. My new L190 (I think) - settling in, i decided to put it into the main tank as it has worked well for every other pleco i have had, becomes more active, plenty of hiding spots in there. Cactus - a pig! Sunshine - actually all of them have become pigs Large polka dot Blue Phantom Albino Sailfin - the only one i never see eating but always has a fat belly, who knows what it eats! keeps growing too. phoenix44
Got a pic of its tail? I'm inclined to say L190 at this stage.
jamosfish
It looks to have a greenish appearance??? Or is it just the pic? L190, Panaque nigrolineatus, tend to have a more grey/tan appreance. They also have a windowin their tail when small. A tail pic would help
henward
ill get a tail pic when i can. window in the tail? ?? ill get a pic when it comes out:D definitely more greenish in appearance

Sophia
Henward, I think all your fish would become pigs with all that homebrewed fishfood you make :sml2: do the plecos try to cross breed or can they recognise their own kind well enough?
henward
no, doesnt look like that royal is that a dull eye? dull eyes get bigger dont they? dont feed home made food anymore, too messy:D feeding sinking wafers and algae wafers, but transitioning to algae wafers for maximum pleco benefit
jamosfish
Hows that pic comming along? The Sunshine is looking good! How big is it now? Have you found that yours grows real quick? You should get yourself a mate for that Cactus.....
Rabbit
Need's a tail shot to be ruled out as being P. Armbrusteri.

henward
ill try to get one its becoming more active and interested in food, it will start to come out and feed soon. that white bit on the tail - it definitely does not hve that. the tail is consistent with the colouring of the body... if that makes sense haha
jamosfish
Sounds like a L27 P. Armbrusteri to me.... Nice find.
henward
when it comes out more, ill take a very clear pic but not sure if its that gold... what is the difference?
flatfish
It looks like a very nice royal pleco (Panaque nigrolineatus) to me, although a tail shot would help. I had what I thought was a goldline but after seeing the new species paper I think it was P. nigrolineatus. Goldlines are now banned from export from Brazil so we are unlikely to see them imported in the immediate future.
henward
dont really mind what type it is, just like them:D but of course, i am one that wants to collect different types, collecting the 'whole set' so to speak i have this immense temptation to get another cactus lol but trying hard to stop myself! flatfish
yeah you've got some great plecos. Leopard cactus are one of my favorites. How long is yours?
henward
cactus is the biggest of the lot, prob 25 cms, quite big, and its an absolute pig! the other plecs will chew and scrap wafers, this guy just breaks them up and swallows chunks! most active is the snowball and blue phantom, then sunshine, then cactus. but they are all active, hoping royal will join the party soon... maybe i should buy myselr a dull eye too:D add to the festivities lol davids just got one, he is gonna grow it out untill he cant stand the immense amount of sawdust, then ill get to buy it off him:D eventually i want all the species in my monster comm tank. still wanting a magnum scarlet king tiger medusa starlight BN 2 green phantoms 1 to 2 more blue phantoms and what ever else comes in thats a good size my eventual tank, i want it to be so extremely busy at the bottom when its feeding time, and so many plecs sucking on wafers :dunno: obsessed what can i say -
flatfish
Thats a nice sized cactus and a great pleco lineup you've got in mind. It should be relatively easy to get hold of a nice king tiger. Medusas are a tricky species to keep well and probably not ideal for a bigger pleco tank. You've also got plecos together with very different diets which can get tricky. I lost a royal because I had it in with my cactus plecos and I think the high protein diet eventually killed it. you're not the only one thats pleco obsessed. Yeah, im actually switching my plecos to a sinking wafer (vege content) and algae wafer diet. CLown loaches all benefit from it algae wafer is prescribed for all plecos. THe meat eaters get their share of meat but also fibre. my last royal too had that problem, staple of sinking cichlid gold, but switching to algae wafers will do the trick i believe. i am turning ALL my bottom feeders to algae wafers and that alone. Very occasional meat pellets. that should solve the issue. king tigers are carinivores - should benefit from algae wafers too. royals and panaques should do well on algae wafers too.... cactus certainly aint complaining lol loves it! i gather, algae wafers are designed for plecos and panaques.... has very high vegetable protein and fibre. no more 'mass massivore' clown loach frenzy unfortunatley:D
flatfish
That diet should suit your Ancistrus, sailfins, royal, polkadot, and phantom. My king tigers only rarely touch algal wafers although my cactus and sunshine plecos (both carnivores) eat plenty. You probably still need to add more meaty foods for your carnivores and therein lies the problem as royals and other vegos love meaty foods. I now keep my cactus and goldie/sunshines in their own tank.
henward
Algae wafers also have fish meal in it too though... im sure as a general wafer its fine right?
