Belgianbiscuit
Hi, I was wondering which apistos would live in peace with a couple of Ramirezi? Planning to get a 200 liter tank and was wondering to get 6 or so apistos in there. Other fish will be mainly tetras. Reason I'd say Ramirezi is because I like them and easy to find locally. loginthesand
in my experience almost all apistos will go well, with the exception of occasional chasing, just make sure there is plenty of plants. that said with ramirezi i would be cautious as they can get much bigger than most apistos. sounds like a good tank let us know when its up and running. Bilbo
Rams do not get bigger than most apisto's but they will usually live peacefully enough together as long as you have a large enough tank and hiding spots. The only time you might have a problem is if one or both try to spawn and even then I have never seen any ram getting the better of any apisto, especially a female apisto with eggs or fry. Most female apistos require a 30 x 30cm territory each. Males usually have one about twice this size or more. Blue rams will usually only defend a small territory. A.cacatouides or macmasteri should go well with them as they require very similar parameters.
Belgianbiscuit
Thanks guys, @Bilbo, noticed you are from Bulls. Where do you get your fish from? Palmy shops are limited when it comes to Apistos :-) Cheers
Belgianbiscuit
I am going to HFF on Friday in Albany. They seem to have some apistos. Can anyone give me their thoughts on: -Apisto Hongsloi -Blue Apistograma (Are these cacatuoides?) And is it best to buy a male and a female? Or more? Not planning to actively breed. Bilbo
Hongsloi are awesome but I have lost my last 4 males (over the last 2 years) so I now only have females. You can buy them off me if you want. Get a male from HFF and get the proven adult females from me for half the price of the shop stuff There is no such thing as blue apisto Its is probably Apistogramma sp. 'Steel Blue'. The only other fish known as the blue apisto is the A. panduro but I dont think thats in the country anymore.
zeebee
What brand of prepared foods do you guys feed them? Whats their favourite?
danval
The Apistogramma Blue are actually Trifasciata.... They are up to $45 in shops... I have them for $15 if interested. Macmasteri for $8 Cheers Dan.
Joe
Macmasteri and trifasciata go really well together in my experience  I'd be wary of putting agassizii and trifasciata together because I have them in the same tank and there is a wee bit of aggression but so far nothing serious, just a bit of flaring. Bilbo
The Apistogramma Blue are actually Trifasciata.... That makes sense but pretty confusing if the store cant put the correct name on them. I have some from Danval as well and the are stunning fish.
danval
I do agree Bilbo. LFS has these also advertised as "Blue Apisto" ($43). The tri's I have came in as Trifasciata... Must be what the importer marketed them as?
#!CrunchBang
HFF Albany had some super red cockatoos that came in labelled as double red.

Godly3vil
they usually label the A. sp "steel blue" as Apistogramma borelli when they come in Thats what the one I bought was labeled as. Seems to be poor quality stock though, he didn't even last a week.
