chris_irl
So just gone through all the bits that I bought, a few bit need replacements, need some help figuring out where to get them. here's a complete list of what I got 218L tank stand Hood with built in light unit Rena 300w heater Hydor Prime 20 external filter full of nodules, sponge and filter wool An ornamental bell A bag of gravel A plastic bag full of plants; about 20 of them altogether Air pump and airlines A big bag full of chemicals and test kits Tank, temporarily stored out the back till I figure out where it's going. Filter: While the body of the filter is good I need to get replacement tubing and inlet / outlet pieces. The inlet pipe is missing and the outlet is disgusting. Anyone know any shops that I could source replacement parts from in NZ? The chemicals etc: comprehensive selection Airpump: I might need to replace some of the tubing, it's gone quite stiff in places.Anyone know what the point of the little clear plastic cases are? Not bad for 300 bucks Any help with the filter parts would be great or any good/bad comments about any of the stuff would help too.
si_sphinx
looks like a nice tank, What are you going to put in it? Throw out the plastic plants and get some real ones. you can get some new filter pipes from any pet store or any plumbing shop could be cheaper the little clear plastic bit is a non-return valve so you don't get water in the pump when it switches off. I fully intend on planting it up properly The tubing should be ok enough to get, more the plastic end parts that could be a problem
#!CrunchBang
Keep the Rena away from the rocks :slfg: I would use Seachem Prime as a water ager after the one you've been given runs out. Don't use the pH up or down, The pH will find it's own balance naturally. I wouldn't use the algae clear or Aqua clear, It's better to find the source of the problem and fix that, than it is to just treat it. Don't know anything about the filter, but if you cant find parts the Aqua one CF1000 or Aqua one CF1200 will do the job nicely and parts will be readily available. The clear plastic things in the air lines are check valves that stop water flowing back down through them if the air pump is turned off
disgustipated
add your location under profile section of the user control panel. if you're on the north shore or in auckland, come take my JD he's a hardy fish, good for beginners and establishing tanks. he will start your cycling off nicely.. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=56751

blueether
The inlet pipe is missing and the outlet is disgusting. Anyone know any shops that I could source replacement parts from in NZ?Just buy aquaone bits, should fit and will be cheep. Just take the hose with you when you go so you can get the correct size for the hose. The outlet one could be cleaned with a week solution of bleach if needed? Just wash well after. spoon
before buying parts for that filter check it works well and isnt too noisy for your liking it is quite old( may still work fine but best to check before spending much money on it. if you dont have enough tubing some old garden hose could do for testing it looks to be a similar size also check the clips and seals are in good condition and take the pump apart and check the impellor and impellor shaft because if any of these are broken chances are you wont be able to replace them
chris_irl
I've already stripped and cleaned the pump. Seals etc all good. haven't turned it on yet though. Must go do that...
chris_irl
tested. After an initial hissy fit and leaking all over the place I checked to find that it wasn't fully sealed. Took it apart, put it back together properly and the pump / filter ran perfectly. Not to noisy and will be even less so tucked away in the press. I'll buy a replacement O ring anyway just to be sure. phoenix44
will do, cheers Is it an eheim / fluval filter?
chris_irl
Replacement inlet/outlet parts ordered. A quick search shows a lot of people seem to take sand straight off the beach for tanks, I like the idea due to the dark sand here but is it legal here? If I'm going for lots of plants I presume an under layer to the sand is preferable, didn't bother last time, just planted straight to the sand but I assume a clay layer of some kind would be preferable? Is it an eheim / fluval filter? no, Hydor
