henward
can you try feding it a small green frog and let me know if it is ok after a few days? i have tried feeding my silver green frogs ages ago, it loved it and it was ok - wonder if feeding red arowana is ok too. burrowssj
frogs are poisen and will likely kill your aros. dont do it unless your stupid
Squirt
The secretion makes the frog slippery and hard to grip, and is poisonous to some other species of frogs, so it is a useful defensive tool for Green and Golden Bell Frogs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_and_Golden_Bell_Frog I'm taking that these are the frogs you will be feeding? I'm not sure if it is poisonous to arowanas though.
burrowssj
why risk it? just feed something else...
henward
I guess the thing is, frogs are quite good for them. but yes, i can feed something else. but just wondering, are they actually poisonous?
Squirt
I'm not sure, but Wikipedia is normally pretty good :slfg:
Ismart120
Are you breeding/growing the frogs yourself or wild caught? I'd be cautious about wild ones as they may be carrying something/have worms etc

Fruju
Normal GB frogs here are not poisonous. You could feed to your aro no probs I think. In terms of disease, no idea.
henward
fraser, you tried feeding them to fish? or have you studied them? in term sof knowing if they are poisonous?
Ismart120
Ok, we just had a problem with introducing frogs into our amphibian tanks for a bit, killed all of them off due to something that was being pasted around, not sure how good that'd be for the arowanas is all. Insect Direct
apparently they do release toxins .. how toxic and to what who knows, may just taste bitter. i have seen beardies chase them down with vigor only to quickly spit them out, which is consistent with the above, it was like they'd just taken a bite of a hot chilli. not a good feeder imo. you are better off with rats, insects, and fish. henward
i have just read that Aboriginies used to eat them....
alanmin4304
Why take the risk with an expensive fish unless you like a high stakes gamble? There are plenty of other good foods out there.
henward
yeah, it is something i can never explain.............. no one would understand, none the less, i have been given lots to think bout.
Fruju
Haven't done either. Just haven't heard of them carrying a toxin. If there is doubt then I wouldn't risk it with the aro.
