Lawyers fees.

We recently sold a house, we had an offer which fell through and a back up offer to the successful sale. The lawyer has charged us $250 for the first and $250 for the second a total of $500 even though we had no contact with him. The selling agent says that she had to present the offers to the lawyer and that he has charged us for the work he did ( even though she has never heard of such a thing happening in the past ) neither have we and we have moved houses lots of times. Has anyone else had this experience?

It's odd, but a property discharge (was there a property discharge?) involves a bit of work. It's not complicated or anything, but $300 or so is the norm. Most lawyers will just charge one fee and not break it down based on the number of offers they have had to deal with.

When I was looking at buying a house I put in an offer to a house with the condition that I would purchase if I could also purchase the small section behind it. The house vendor accepted my offer but the section owner did not. So I never continued with the house purchase. However the realestate agent put through the paperwork for the house to the lawyer before the section owner made a decesion. So the lawer had to process this and I was charged for something that never went ahead and was a waste of money. I wasn't very happy with the RE agent but they said they have to put through approved purchase aggrements as soon as they are accepted. :an!gry

$100 Lesson learnt.
