danval
Maybe Hamilton Water? as I use no filtration.... Fed on Frozen blood worms, and recently.. live bloodworms and live daphnia. I have them on a chest of drawers that my kids are going in and out of.... (I have 7) and they don't seem to have been put off.... I know I would have been put off with the opening of all those drawers....

danval
All good so far... Mum Apisto is very protective of her eggs (maybe 50 to 60). Mr Apisto stays well clear. Eggs look about ready to hatch

danval
Thanks Luke. Never had the luck with the Rummynose's as you did . Had plenty of spawn but never raised any to maturity. Thanks myfishybuisness... I hope she continues to be a good mum and not decide to have a munch!

Joe
OK here's the pics. I took them last night. I could only take pics of the big male because the other one is in the net breeder, and the females were quite hard to photograpth because they hide quite a lot. #!CrunchBang
I'm considering a pair of these when I get my 400L
Joe
You could fit three pairs plus a few pairs of other Apistos and dwarf cichlids in a 400L tank! It would have to be well-furnished with plants and wood though because they like to have their own little territories
Joe
My trifasciata spawned yesterday but I don't think I'll successfully raise any fry as I currently don't have a spare tank to put them in. Although I've ordered my breeding tank which have been meaning to get for ages although I couldn't find somewhere that could do it for a good price. I'm getting it from Petworld in Christchurch. $260.00 for a 650x500x500mm tank, 10mm glass, ADA-style and low-ion glass for the front panel :happy1:
danval
Nice work Joe! Try and keep the spawn because you never know how long they may live for.... My female developed a spot on her head and today she was near death so I put her out of her misery. Hopefully I can raise some of the fry to maturity. Joe
Oh no, that's a shame I will do my best. I suppose I could pop down to the shop and buy another net breeder, there goes another $13.50 but it will be worth it for the fry.
danval
See how they go with mum first as they always seem to do best when they stay with their mum.... Initially anyway. Good luck
Caryl
I have a spare tank etc here Joe.
Joe
Thanks Caryl, although there are only about 5 eggs left so it wouldn't be worth raising those if they hatched. This is exactly what happened with the macmasteri - they would lay a large amount of eggs which would dissapear over a couple of days. I think it is because the water is too hard and has a high pH. I'll try again when I get my breeding tank and some Indian almond leaves.
