henward
Reverse osmosis filters. I know peol use them for tap water to tank. can you run a reverse osmosis unit for the tank water itself? will it filter out nitrates? Amonia and Nitrite? was thinking running one in my tank, so just cleans the tank water. not even sure if its possible:D just bored at work and juggling ideas
amtiskaw
Most of the water exits the RO unit as waste. The RO water output is only a trickle. So no, you couldn't run it as a filter.
alanmin4304
The more contaminants you have the more waste water there will be.

A little less pure than RO/DI but more than pure enough. Not really quite good enough for marine.
ryanjury
If you ran a RODI unit on your tank, you would purify all your tank water then you would end up with a whole heap of sick fish (HITH etc) from having no minerals in the water.. Only way to do it would be to be adding trace elements at the same rate and somehow compensating for the amount of water that was going to waste.
