ichthus
Hi just wondering where in Auckland to find river rocks (the smooth grey variety) for my aquarium. I'm meaning river locations, rather than shops, as something seems wrong about buying plain grey stones! Thanks Rob
#!CrunchBang
River stones in Auckland might be hard to find with all the sandstone around. Maybe try some gardens or a shop.
Li@m
Waitakeri ranges. Im positive i saw some in the rivers/streams over there. The other best bet is garden shops or " Stone and Water World".
ichthus
Thanks. I can wait till we drive south sometime. Didn't really think of the sandstone ruining my chances! I'm wanting to put a couple of cichlids in a tank, and wanted some stones to build the caves.
Sophia
also have a look at Central Landscape supplies, there is likely to be a branch not too far from you
Caryl
I am thinking "Aucklanders have to buy rocks" :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: Sorry, I will stop laughing now. Different rocks are found in different parts of NZ. The flat grey kind are just what we have down here. Perhaps you need a holiday
Sunbird73
There are loads in hawkes bay. Or if thats too far try coromandel (might find some gold too LOL)
Stephanie
Worst case Stone and Water World has some big bags of flat rocks for about $10. You could make so many caves out of a bag!
ichthus
I know - I'm from Taranaki. So I refuse to buy rocks! Auckland...different.
Insect Direct
may be worth trying a quarry, last time i went and asked for some river sand, for a fish tank, they just told me to help myself. doubt most quarries would charge you much, if anything for a few rocks. Ira
Or a landscaping supply. They usually have more interesting rocks.
