Out of all veges here in nz, Orange Kumara has the highest Beta carotene levels - 25% more than carrots approx.

and Spirulina powder has 400% gram to gram vs all veges more beta carotene.

just a thought when gutloading mealworms, crickets:)

didnt even think of capsicums - wonder how mealworms would eat capsicums and how it would be gutloading them for an arowana to eat.

was comparing veges like kumara, potato, pumpkin thats easy to feed to mealies.

plecos i assume eat caps and are ok with it?

i find leafy veges hard to keep in the fridge for long and there isnt much mass to feed the mealworms with.

going by that guide

http://www.healthaliciousness.com/nutritionfacts/nutrition-facts-compare.php

pepper, caps - paprika would be a good source.

i have fed paprika to many fish before especially discus.

Paprika (peppers) has a massive amount of red colourant (obviosuly its bright red)

i think im going to have to try getting paprika into the arowana diet...

well, colour for a red arowana is mainly genetics but we give it all the help we can with good food and food with high colouring properties.

just like the flamingo for example, would be white except for its diet.

just want to make it red as possible.

Spirulina has one of the widest carotene range there is thats easily obtainable, so getting spirulina powder into the diet is key in this case.

beta carotene levels plus some are incredibly high in spirulina. so gutloading goldfish and mealworms weith them even crickets is awesome:D

unfortunately, most fish foods have limited amounts of spirulina soi just use powder now.

flamingos eat blue green algae - which is similar to spirulina as far as i can see.

astaxanthin is put into fish pellets as a supplement - but you can actually buy astaxanthin in soft gell caps too!
