aquariumbeginner32
So is the filter in my aquarium meant to be running 24/7 or what? I've just been putting it on and off through the day and the water looks really good still. I clean my tank once a week. Might be getting a bigger tank soon. I hope. Joshlikesfish
Yes it should be running 24/
Caryl
Yes the filter should run 24/7. Just because the water looks good, doesn't necessarily mean it is.

Caryl
What size tank and filter do you have and what fish are in it? Just curious 8)
aquariumbeginner32
Well I just got a bigger tank today. So I have more fish now lol But before when I asked the question I just had 2 minnows in a 15L tank because I learnt after purchasing the overpriced tank from The Warehouse that it wasn't big enough. Anyway, so I just got a 64L tank today. Now I have the 2 minnows and 5 guppies. I haven't put the guppies in the new tank yet. I've set it up and the filter is on. I put the guppies in with the minnows in the 15L for tonight and tomorrow when it's warm enough (not in the morning! lol) I will put all the fish into the 64L tank. Caryl
Guppies are tropical and need a heater (unless your house is kept at fairly warm temps - eg over 20C)
Joshlikesfish
Guppies are tropical and need a heater (unless your house is kept at fairly warm temps - eg over 20C) Animates stocks a coldwater guppy that's not actually a guppy and is fine in both tropical and coldwater conditions
Caryl
I really hate when shops advertise "coldwater guppies". There is no such thing! What someone can keep in an unheated tank inside a warm, well insulated home, is different depending where in the world you live.
kiwiplymouth
So are my peppered cory's that are happily living in my outdoor pond at 6.5 degrees tropical or coldwater cory's Sorry for the hijack
Caryl
What they can survive in and what they should be kept in are two different things. Good to know your cories are coping with such low temps. I would not have thought they could do so!
aquariumbeginner32
Oh well I can't take them back now lol They seem to be doing fine. And they were in the same tank with the coldwater fish in the coldwater fish section. ?

Joshlikesfish
I really hate when shops advertise "coldwater guppies". There is no such thing! Pretty sure that the guppies being sold aren't real guppies and cope well in cold water
