BikBok
I knew they were a quiet fish but didn't realise just how shy they were! We bought two pearl gourami yesterday to go in daughetrs tank - sharing with a juvenile peacock and a guppy trio. (fry food for eel) There's plants and tunnels and driftwood and urn. The two gourami just hide out at the back corner as soon as we go near the tank and have not eaten anything in the 24hrs we've had them. Food goes in, guppies gobble it all up while the gouramis hide out. Fed the eel bloodworms this morning and one gouruami darts down to the tunnel and hasn't come out yet. I do hope they will become less scared of us and start to eat soon or are they always going to let the guppy eat first (eat everything!) We were going to do the scheduled water change today but maybe this might be too much upset for the fish so soon. Any hints on getting them to feed? bdspider
Pretty much all fish are shy when you first add them to a tank. Just give them time to adjust to the new setting.
phoenix44
Yeah, they are quite shy if they are not in a large group; but if you have some surface cover and entice them with bloodworms they will settle in quite quickly! The males are very colourful!
Ice222
Hmm surprisingly, mine wasn't shy at all! I only took about an hour to settle in. Now sparkling gouramis, those are shy. I never see them except at feeding time and they've been her for months.
