If you have a look at p44's threads, he has a lot of "red" plants. But he only gets these due to his tanks having high lights etc etc. I have plants that are slightly red whereas in his tanks they go very red. Rotala macrandra, rotundifolia, wallichii. If you do want a rustic red / brown; Crypt. wendtii 'brown' will be brownish even under less intense light. So light is one part of the equation; then you need ferts. Iron in particular helps with the red, but then if you add ferts you'll most likely need to add CO2 so that the plants can actually utilize the ferts given the lighting levels.
