Joe
It can find new owners to become attched to But honestly phoenix, the dog just killed a chook, and the owner of both animals seems to think it is rocket science to get a coop to keep the chooks safe. I feels sorry for the chooks. So... Either Zayne gets a chicken coop The chooks go The dog goes
Insect Direct
Maybe Zayne is just trying to wind us up, in a slightly out there way. Maybe retaliation for my snake.....eel thread  Anyway, if your not joking it would be best to stop making excuses for the dog and do something proactive about it. BikBok
Zayne this is a chicken coop http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 215487.htm this is what people who have animals who eat chickens keep their chickens in so they don't get eaten. that's an awesome looking coop. Our neighbors had something a bit simpler which kept most predators out but somehow our "SPCA special" got in and killed their chickens. Dog was gone the next day. no chances taken as other neighbors also had sheep. This was in the day that it was common for dogs to wander on and off their own property. .. not now.. you must make sure your dog is properly fenced in more than ever, and the chickens are in a safe coop. Jennifer
As an executive, I have no moderating power on these forums but I would hope that we can all be aware of what it means to 'flame' someone and take every care to be respectful here, even when we know there is a problem. Now, relating to the problem at hand, as animal owners in this country we are legally obligated to abide by the Animal Welfare Act 1999 which states that all animals have the following rights to five freedoms: 1. The right to have proper and sufficient food and water 2. The right to have adequate shelter 3. The right to have the opportunity to display normal patterns of behaviour 4. The right to have physical handling in a way which minimises the likelihood of unreasonable or unnecessary pain or distress 5. The right to have protection from, and rapid diagnosis of, any significant injury or disease. In short, we are legally required to protect animals in our care and keep them healthy and happy with proper food and clean water. This means we must promptly seek medical care when they are sick and injured. We also need to ensure that they have minimal stress and a safe living environment that provides sufficient shelter from the elements and space for them to exhibit normal behaviour. Violators of any of these five freedoms are acting against the law and can be prosecuted.
