They haven't done well in an aquarium, onle 2 left.
F15hguy
always thought they needed to be constantly grazing on algae and stuff off rocks,
blueether
always thought they needed to be constantly grazing on algae and stuff off rocks, They do seem to spend all their time grazing. They dont seen to eat the short green algae, only diatoms (and maybe green dust?). They also ate algae wafers, but not in huge amounts. They may do better in a native saltwater setup :dunno:
blueether
Update on the tank now that it has been set up again after having the carpets done a month or two ago. Fish have been living outside on the side veranda. The kokopu are doing well: http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=59689&start=12":3a0trxkb]Homer: about 110mm when caught early last spring 185mm, 101g, condition = 1.60 as of 18 Aug 2012 197mm and 109g, condition = 1.42 on 10 nov 2012 Smallest one: about 85-90mm when caught late spring last year 178mm, 82g, condition = 1.45 as of 18 Aug 2012 187mm and 98g, condition = 1.50 on 10 nov 2012 Med one: about 90mm when caught at the same time as Homer 182mm, 90g, condition = 1.49 as of 18 Aug 2012 195mm and 104g, condition = 1.40 on 10 nov 2012 Large one: about 120-125mm when caught late spring last year 203mm, 122g, condition = 1.46 as of 18 Aug 2012 218mm and 125g, condition = 1.21 on 10 nov 2012 (I think I weighed/measured this wrong as I cant see it loosing that much condition) 208mm and 125g would give a CF of 1.40 CF = W/L^3*100000 where W is in g L is in mm Two of the torrentfish: Fissidens berteroi is doing well (as is the hair algae on this bit of wood): FTS: https://picasaweb.google.com/113298704761943818357/Fish#

blueether
Loving the Fissidens! That is about a year and a half of growth just to 1/2 cover that bit of wood, man that stuff is slow growing, it's growing slightly faster in the trop tank but not much. blueether
thanks joe, it is slowly spreading to the other bits of older wood. I haven't really tried to propagate it yet but that is on the plan.
Mikey
What happened to the goldfish that was in the tank if I may ask?
Stella
NICE! Must be good to be able to see them all again properly. (neat colours on the torries!) Time for some wood to fill in a bit of the vertical space and distract focus on those blinds? (what you guys can't see is the KICKASS FLOW he has got going! The fish look amazing working it. Next we clamour for video
blueether
Mikey, the goldfish was left outside in the 1/2 wine barrel :slfg: It is good to see them back inside. I have plans for the back and above water - riparian tank here I come. I have all the plants I need I think just need to attach then to a 'bank' and attach that to the tank. I was just going to put a background on the back like I had before - plain browns. As for flow there are two wavemakers, a 5000 l/h and a 10000 l/h, and I'm thinking of putting a 3000 l/h one at the other end to lift the crud out of the stones. The stones look nice but are catching a lot of food atm. I'll have to get a good population of snails going I think, although they never seem to last in there with the bullies. already getting a bit of cyano on the stones

blueether
I have moved the last two mullet from the 50 l into this tank as they were getting too big, boisterous and fast. I'm sure that they are stunted from not eating well untill just a month or so ago when they finally decided that Nutrafin granules were good to eat
