hi everyone

i am selling my tank fish etc because i dont realy want such a big tank and i was thinking of going marine but a bit expensive and at my age i cant supple the money if anything goes wrong..... so my idea for a tank is that i get a tank that looks good and comes with filter lights etc built in any ideas probable around 3-4foot? i am probabale going to make it a planted tank :) so anything i need to knw ? some good plants grow fast easy to mantain etc? i am not going to fully plant it i will plant it as much as i need to untill it looks good i will start with ABOUT half planted with baby plants maybe but would prefer medium sized ones or something that grows fast. i am also wanting to gain some money so i was thinking about breeding discus can they go in a semi planted tank? what do i need for them a cone etc? so tell me wat u think or wat i should buy/get :D tips etc

juwel 180 or larger or aquaone 980.

I like the tubes in the aquaone tanks. great for plants.

Juwels are abv better but more expensive.

The sun sun ones look fine but i don't know about the tubes. I do know that the aq one and sun sun have T8s.

the sunsun comes with the plant growing t5's, i don't know what rating the tubes are as i don't care about plants because the africans destroy them.

i prefer the sunsun over the aquaone as the hoods are aluminium, the hood has gaps for canister piping & the cabinets are made from foil wrapped panels which is alot better at keeping water out than the melteca with 0.4mm clashing strips.

You could do a planted dem/yellow/peacock tank hardy plants like java fern, anubais and people have even tried crypts with success, hypothetically if I were allowed to have straight val it would go very well with my tropheus and grow faster than they can eat it too.

Plus if you had a 2ft tank you could easily make a few $$'s by stripping the odd fish every now and then as this mix is very unlikely to cross and would be dead obvious if it did.

Well I dnt mind to much on the price of the tank because whe I have bought everything i am saving the rest :) so a planted african tank? Would look good but also would like to breed ad get some money:) any ideas of wt to breed?

Phoenix managed to do a planted african tank, and YMIR also has a nice planted tank with dems/peacocks and a few others kicking around in it.

I would recommend the dem/yellow/peacock (colony of one type if you want to breed) because I like it, it looks good and works well in a smaller tank. It is also unlikely you will end up with cross breeding and could breed all the fish in there. But to me it really depends what you like more than what you can breed to make money :)

You can sometimes get really good deals off trademe I got a 250L all in one setup off trademe that came with a chiller which I sold and the whole setup including an external cost me $65..

I have a rio 180 and love it but would of gone for the rio 250 if they had of had any on sale at the time I got mine. People complain about the filters in them but I think they are a good way of hiding heaters etc as well as run just sponge's in there. It makes the tank look better. I also have one of those 3d backgrounds on mine so you can't really tell the filter is there.
