Lucid
Definitely some awesome tanks there, I just wish my riccia would grow as rampant as some of those, hopefully my tank will look that good once the plants take off and goo mad. Ira
Stick the vacuum in the plants, wiggle it around to get stuff off the bottom into the water and suck it up.
breakaway
But wont that disturb the plants and maybe kill them? Because of the pressure from the gravel vac. Besides, I thot plants needed that crap to live, right?
livebearer_breeder
to put in bluntly......... yes. Shae
Ira
But wont that disturb the plants and maybe kill them? You don't shove it through the plants into the gravel. Just work it in among the plants or on top of them and wiggle it a bit. That'll get the stuff that's just sitting there up into the water and then suck it up the vacuum. If you're breaking leaves and parts of the plants you're doing it wrong. Plants aren't so delicate that brushing their leaves aside is going to do massive damage to it. spooky
I vacuum my java moss "carpet" by pressing lightly on it with the gravel vac. Gets lots of crap out and doesn't slow down the stuff. Then again, can you kill java moss ?
Ira
All I've found java moss to be good for is clogging filter intakes and collecting garbage.
breakaway
Anyway, I was wondering if you guys could tell me the names of some carpet plants that are readily available in Auckland, besides java moss.
Warren
Glossostigma elatinoides, Riccia fluitans, Echinodorus horemanii, Echinodorus tenelus You may have ask them to order in some of these but they are available.
