Clown killies

Ok, I've been eyeing up these clown killies everyone keeps posting. They're beautiful, do they really have blue eyes or is that just the camera? I've been becoming more interested in killies over the last few months, they seem quite fascinating.

They're ok in a community tank right? (*wonders what she'd have to sell in order to fit them in*)

Or if I set up my 25l, is that too small?

And who has some they can sell me? Anyone in Christchurch? Or does Zev have anymore to bring to conference?

yes

good to see your seeing their beauty

yes but as with most fish, if something is larger they may look like dinner. These are amoungst the smaller killis

(*wonders what she'd have to sell in order to fit them in*)

simple, only keep killis like I do

Or if I set up my 25l, is that too small?

I keep mine in a much smaller tank than that but Im a breeder not for looking

And who has some they can sell me? Anyone in Christchurch?

I dont think that anyone in the Sth Island has them....yet

Or does Zev have anymore to bring to conference?

cant answer the last question

Thanks Barrie.

I think I'll setup the small tank again, I'm too attached to everyone in my community tank to see any of them go.

I'd probably prefer some youngish or adult fish, as I've had no experience with raising fry. But Alan makes the hatching sound so easy that I'd be open to hatching eggs myself if that's all that's available.

Maybe I'll even join Killie Club too

Clown killie production is down at the moment - doesn't help that they produce mainly males either...

Will have to get some more girls - how are yours going Barrie? If HFF bring any more in please let me know, too.

I have young (just sexable) Nothobranchius guentheri gold--about 10 I think.

Free if you want to breed them. I could bring them to the meeting on Wednesday if you want. Peat spawners that you store the eggs for 4 months then wet and instant fish. Best in their own tank as they need a teaspoon of salt to the gallon to keep the velvet away. 23-24 deg is good.

Ok, talk me through the breeding & egg storage briefly?

Or I'll have a chat to you on Wed about it.

I'd love to be a part of spreading the killie love, but I'm not sure if I should take on anything that could possibly add more stress to my life. I'm not in that good a head-space & already have lots of animals to care for, I don't want to suddenly feel overwhelmed from all their maintenance. But than again maybe they'd have a positive impact as well *shrug*

I have a soft spot for fish with defined stripes or spots as well, which I suppose is why the clowns really took my interest.
