Brennos
I purchased a CF1000 of a user, and am about to set it up. I have 2 lots of bioballs and ceramic noodles, but only room for one or the other, unless I mix them. which is better noodles or balls?. I already have a cf1200 set up and running, which has both. The other question is, can i run one filter into the other and back out, sort of daisy chaining them, as I dont want to clutter up my tank with a second spraybar and return pipe. Any help would be great, thanks.
SamH
I thinks the ceramic noodles have a larger surface area? I'd go for the noodles any day, I always have. Maybe someone else can confirm this? HTH
kiwiplymouth
Bio balls work better in a wet/dry situation so in a canister you are better off with noodles
Brennos
That's what I have read as well, so that's cool, can I link 2 canisters together, or will that screw up the flow? one is rated at 100lph, and the other is 1200lph. Is that first rating meant to be 1000lph and not 100 ? If by linking them together you mean putting both of them in the same tank then the answer is yes. I have 2 x CF1200's in a 5 footer, one at each end of the tank.
ryanjury
There would be no point in joining the 2 canisters together, I mean it would work but you would need to have one filled up as your prefilter and the other as your biomedia.. I would juts run the 2 independently that way if something does happen to one of them you still have filtration and your fish don't die
Brennos
Yeah, 1000, sorry. Hmm, ok, ill have to have 2x spray bar etc. It's a pity, as the return pipe has been cut, so i might need to purchase a new one, oh well. I have just serviced it, and replaced all the seals, and used ehiem noodles in the first basket, and aqua one noodles in the second basket, with 3x filter pads, so its all clean and new, its in the garage testing in a bucket at the moment, if no leaks are found, I will move it too the house tomorrow, and install it in my tank, to boost filtration. Water-Boy
Hi if you run both separtely you well have more water flow & tank will be cleaner
kiwiplymouth
There is no reason why you couldn't tee both returns into the one spray bar. You would need to enlarge the holes in the spray bar so it didn't restrict the increased flow.

You would need to enlarge the holes in the spray bar so it didn't restrict the increased flow. Thats an idea, I have 3 spray bars, and plenty of drills. If I added a second set of holes at a 45 degree angle to the other ones, would that be sufficient I wonder?. Only foreseeable issue, is finding a suitable tee piece. I still have 2x return pipes, but that's not much of an issue I guess. Might just plub it up tomorrow as is, for now, and see how it looks. spoon
13mm or 15mm irragtion tees will work fine with cf1200/1000 piping just remember to buy the lil clamps too i would keep the inlets separate though will help circulate the water better
henward
noodles. bio balls in a canister is really somewhat useless. the noodles. in fact, noodles may even by a cheaper smooth noodle. if it is, also almost useless. better to invest in roughly aquaone ceramic bio media. kiwiplymouth
If you can, Go for a Y joiner instead of a T. Trying to pump water around a 90 deg corner is very inefficient and will result in a big drop in the LPH the the filter will pump.
Brennos
Cheers for the tip.
