I'm no marine expert but isn't that quite low lighting? :-?
Jennifer
I thought so too, but figured I could always upgrade. Thing is, I don't want to feel that I need to upgrade everything immediately! Too many 'ifs' for me and I don't think I am ready yet so I am going to pass on that one. Zev
I'm assuming that's 2x T8s? I'm no marine expert but isn't that quite low lighting? :-? Yeah, I know it is only a fraction of the litreage of the RSM, but when you lift the hood of the 250, there are a few T5 lamps in there 8)
SamH
Another option is to have a sump that's bigger than the tank
Jennifer
Or maybe I can use that tank as the sump and get a bigger tank for the livestock...of course then I would need new lights, and a new heater, and a new skimmer and.... Navarre
If you are going to invest in this I think you woudl be better of with going slowly and starting as you mean to go on rather than upgrading later on...of course i have no experience with sw but knowing you Jen bigger is always better
Jennifer
omg, I cannot believe you just went there...although actually I am not all that surprised. Anyway....yes, I would really like a large reef that takes up the entire wall, but I can just see the rotting soup that would transpire as I got my inexperienced hands on it.... plus I can just see how comical it would be if I got stuck in there trying to scrub away algae.... smaller is better now...but not so small that it would be unstable. Perhaps just the bedroom wall instead of the lounge wall.
Zev
..of course i have no experience with sw but knowing you Jen bigger is always better Pssst.. Jennifer
Pssst.. Nav, do you think she will go for one like Steve Weast's tank? Yes, actually I have been drooling over Steve's tank for ages but have had no luck in trying to convince Nav to come build one like it for me...

jolliolli
water quality and temperature is easier to control in a larger volume of water, so the biggest you can go would be best.

Jennifer
Too cool for words I guess I am planning on a trip to the States this year to visit the family (and Monterey Bay Aquarium) so I might have to see if Steve would mind a visit. Now that would be very worthwhile.
Zev
I would check first, I think he only has his coldwater tank going now. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showt ... ?t=1080179 See you after you have read the 17 page thread! Jennifer
Goodness me that was long...and a bit discouraging... corals seem pretty challenging. I am fairly convinced that I need a holding tank but I am getting more and more stumped with the pumping. Back to the drawing board.

Jennifer
Yes! That's the lighting setup I was telling you about! 8) Trouble is, I would need to knock out a wall to but the tank and all its guff behind it which would be a much bigger project.
