alanmin4304
The problem is that there are a few people who are atracted to the idea that something is very rare or ilegal or both and they have to have it. If you stop the market you stop the problem ---but human nature being what it is.....

livingart
the fine should be 192,000 dollars
alanmin4304
The previous lot ended up at Orana Park. One of the problems is that they were labeled as coming from a certain location but there could well be a half dozen different colonies in that area and each having slightly different genetics. It is not known which colony they came from so they cannot be returned and will end up in zoos or destroyed.
chillz
They may be able to be returned to the right conlonys due to very distinct individual markings within colonys, fingers crossed.
repto
they would want to keep it very quite with the second option??
Charlie
the fine should be 192,000 dollars can the afford it? Its like dishing out traffic fines to people that are on the benefit and they end up paying it at $5 per week for 3 years? is there a point? Chuck them out and mark the passport so everytime they travel they get flagged up as potential smugglers and are searched.
alanmin4304
If you can't afford the time don't do the crime. Lock them up for a while.
livingart
fine them and don't let them out of the country until it is paid or put them in jail until the minimum hourly rate would see the fine paid most would think twice before attempting it the second option of destroying them would be stupid as there are registered keepers in the country
Insect Direct
Would micro chipping the gecko's and skinks especially in rarer populations. Help stop the smuggling and or identify animals after they have left our borders?
HaNs
Would micro chipping the gecko's and skinks especially in rarer populations. Help stop the smuggling and or identify animals after they have left our borders? Not really, they would remove the chips and chips can cause complications. Chips move under the skin and could cause some damage.
robert25
Here,s an idea why not use the geckos to start a breeding program, sell any surplus as well as putting some back to the wild ,then in time no body would want to come here and steal them
