N1CK
My little sister has asked my dad if she can set up a tank, and as im the fish person i get some kind of influence in the matter... (as i'll be the who will be doing most of the work on it) I've been showing her alot of different fish and shes kind of fallen in love with Clown Killies (Pseudepiplatys Annulatus) so I have done a bit of researching and am planning a 60L x30W x30/5H tank Permanent with a well fitting lid, probably Med-Well planted with Crypts, water sprite, steam plants, java fern/moss, anubias, ect and a BN This will also be my first experience with killies so any tips will be helpful Also what kind of filter system would be best I have a HOB filter that could make a good mechanical/Biological filter..... Zev
They are surface dwellers, a HOB should be fine, if you don't have too many fish in the tank you could probably get away with a sponge filter - mind you, I don't know how messy a BN is. I can send you a few boys if you pay the courier fee
SamH
Adult BN's are very messy! I had a couple in a temp. tank and their poo was everywhere, yuck. Good for the plants though. Just ask for some Riccia, then you'll get a couple. Which reminds me, do you have anymore fish from that batch I could buy Zev?
oeminx
clowns stick to the surface of the water, so you might want to add another type of killie also to cover the middle. Aphyosemion Bitaeniatum or Poropanchax Normani would work well for the middle. In my 40L killie tanks I run one of These And he has a 60l-90l one here a HOB would also work. If you have lots of Java moss you may well find fry popping up in the tank to. Just yesterday I found 3 Normani fry swimming around mid tank. Just yesterday I found 3 Normani fry swimming around mid tank. I was planning on some denser plants to help with the fry survival rate I was thinking a fine sponge on the end of a HOB filter for mechanical filter and then filled up as much as possible with some porous rock or ceramic rings then again i might go and check out the LFS for a cheaper 50ish L all in one setup I'm thinking i'll get it all set up and running and see how it looks before adding any other fish... SamH
Go Nature Aquarium style! Heaps of that long Eleocharis at the back (if we get it here) and the dwarf stuff at the front. Three central rocks and a white background. That's what I'd do.

I need them to be counted for a breeding cert before I let you have any more 'riccia' Sam so that will be thirty days at the least!
SamH
Shall I send mine back so you can add them to the count?
Zev
Thanks Sam, but I have ten or so swimming about at the moment.
N1CK
What about something like this?? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pets-animals/Fish/Fish-tanks-aquariums/auction-246472808.htm I would most likeley stick a songe thing on the end of the HOB filter then fill it up with bio media Mostly low light plants so the light shouldn't be a problem what do ya think??? how many killies would fit in it as well :-? Zev
You may have to ask Barrie nicely if he has any female Annulatus - mine are all boys.

N1CK
My dad has decided against setting one up for my sister so I plan on setting one up for myself , I'm still after an all in one setup just for the ease of the light/hood, and have been looking at the blue planet classic 50, but at $250 brand new is slightly too much for me.... does anyone know where I could get one of those cheaper or some other option.... (except an aqua one tank  )

Zev
N1ck doesn't like the shape of them - he would prefer more length than depth

Zev
Can't say I'm a fan of the rounded edges either - and I am rather partial to black silicone...
phoenix44
black silicone... It has got to be the messiest thing to work with ever. Looks amazing though. I might get my next tank done in black or colourless silicone (uv)
