Vinnie
My other half and I have decided to make upgrading our 4 foot tank our next must, so we are looking at getting a tank made 200cm x 60cm x 70cm (L x D x H) We have a couple of oscars and a few silver sharks all ready but would love to add a arowana if we upgraded. What are you thoughts about this?
Morcs
I wouldve thought a 6ft would be fine for an arowana. Though the bigger the better.
phoenix44
a jardini yes, but a silver aro probably not for the long term. best to get something wider than 2 ft too. 8 foot long ideally. they get BIG  and fast.
Morcs
And have a habit of either breaking your cover glasses, or knocking themselves out if you have weights on top of the covers... Get a couple of dats instead :bounce:
livingart
the bigger the better, going wider gives more room a jardini will remove all smaller tanjkmates eventually
Vinnie
hmm... I know a 8 foot would be better, the only prob is where I am living doesn't quite have the space. Oh well I'll just get a school of silver dollars in stead
smidey
maybe a comprimise would work, what do you experienced aro keepers think of a 2100L x 900W x700H?
Vinnie
maybe a comprimise would work, what do you experienced aro keepers think of a 2100L x 900W x700H? only prob with that is I won't be able to get it in the flat, best width I can go is 750ish
Simian
Turn it on its side to get it thru the door?
Morcs
Everyone ignores me when I say Dats  they are waaay cooler than aros
Vinnie
Turn it on its side to get it thru the door? of coarse I don't think of the easy way of doing it  Everyone ignores me when I say Dats  those look cool, but I can see a few fish that I keep with my oscars going missing very quick

evil_elmo
smallest i would go for a silver aro would be 6x2.5x2 (LxWxH)

David R
smallest i would go for a silver aro would be 6x2.5x2 (LxWxH) That size would be good for a few years, but I don't think 6' is enough length for when the aro gets to 3' long. Another option no one else has mentioned yet is an asian aro. They grow quickly when younger but slow down around 18" and if you could make the tank 700 wide instead of high you should have no proplems housing it for years. There is a green on trademe here (I presume its alright to post the link now that the stance seems to have been relaxed), price is about as good as it'll get IMO. Thanks for that, I will look into that when getting the tank built. Still deciding the sizes at the moment though- I have to keep in mind i'm still renting... but the place does have the right floor for a tank like that
