Is it legal to keep butterfly carp? If not what kind of a licence would i need?

If they are illegal then why are carp in the botanical gardens ponds?

I think they are really cool but all the research iv done has all been on web sites that are from the UK or US.

If they are legal, is there anyone who breeds them?

I found a web site that sell them and they are all around $400 :o unfortunately that means shipping them in to the country but i still really want to breed them!

Theres grass carp that they are trying to use for multi-culture (aquaculture + agriculture) the carp feed on the insects etc that live in the roots/leaves of the rice/other water-borne crop, they createa rich matt of nutrients that then feeds the rice. come harvest time, the carp and the rice are both eaten! 2 for the price of 1!

Maybe the gardens have a special "educational " deal going whereby they can keep them but tell people that they are a noxious pest and "this" is what they look like... :-?
