Was planting flax and toitois around a farm dam today,these plants were mainly in one area around some submersed logs.

This piece had come out of the substrate so i grabbed it,no roots tho.

Looks to me like something i saw on supasi's blog -potamogeton crispus? if it is will be alright in a Tropicana tank?

Looks very much like potamogeton crispus to me.

Its quite common in the wanganui area, so would assume it is up your way too.

Its quite fragile and breaks easily. This is how it spreads

That is what it looks like to me also. Common down here as well. Doesn't do well in a tropical tank.

thanks guys, il leave it in my tank that's cycling and see what happens as the heater may be buggered, only getting up to 20 degrees max. There was other plants growing submersed i only saw at a glance,the boss was in a hurry so i may have another look. is there many plants one would find in such a place suited to tropical tanks?

I found it hard to grow even in cold water.

Needs good water quality and flow as i remember

With NZ being a mainly temperate climate there are not many plants that like tropical conditions. Most found in shallow water are there because they need strong light.
