imsweet
HI, would like to have a change around with my plants and move all the big ones to the back and tidy up the smaller ones in the front. This is obviously going to cause a stir up with the gravel etc. Do most ppl take the fish out to do this? My tank is just under 300ltrs and has some fast fish in there. Would it be ok to just bucket the fish i can catch, move things around and let the filter do it's job before chucking them back in? It's quite a change i want to do, not just a few bits here and there. Or would you recommend catching MOST fish and draining the tank somewhat? Love the overgrown look but i dont get to see/ watch the fish the way i used to.

supasi
What sort of substrate do you have Stacey? If its just gravel then you should b sweet to just move the plants while the fish are in there, but if you have sand or aquatic mix it may make a big mess uprooting all the existing plants. Vinnie
I agree with supasi. 2 days a go I did a big change of order in my 350 liter tank and most of my fish loved it a part from the pleco who didn't like his tunnel being pick up be he got over it. phoenix44
i recently replanted my tank, removed a lot of plants etc... shuffled things around a fair bit. Since I didnt have potting mix at the bottom, and only had gravel i just went ahead and left the fish as is. the were all perfectly fine, and the water settled within hours. if there is a lot of muck that gets stirred up, just do a water change - its as good a time as it gets! LYNDYLOO
Yup, leave the fish in the tank no need to move them. I just leave for a couple of hours to settle down, then do a water change.
imsweet
cool ppl, i just have dark gravel, but most of the plants have been in there since i've had the tank....3yrs? maybe. i'll leave them and do a water change after, i'm sure it'll be due for one. Will take a before and after pic too.

imsweet
Hi Simon, no, nothing special here. I have had a variety of plants and some live, some dont. The ones that survive seem to multiply well and i just break off and re-plant. I dont know if you can see but theres a mossy type of [algae?] something growing slowly on my little car. I read somewhere it's due to lack of water movement? I dont mind it but there's some on the stones from where i pulled the plants and i'll remove it soon.
