scales & tails fishfa
Hi there. This is really wierd. :-? I have read up about breeding fighters many times so tryed to do it myself. I have a 10 gallon tank, plants, half a styrofoam cup, a egg-filled female and am feeding them small live foods and betta flakes. My fish are both 4.5 months old. The male was building huge bubble nests under the cup, but they kept on popping within 15 mins. Now he has totally stopping building nests and just flirts with the female, like he was doing egarly before. Every 2 hours I would release the female for 20mins into his tank. He still flirts and chases her and seems eager to mate. They have been together for about 2 and a half weeks now. He stopped building nests 3 days ago. WHAT DO I DO!? phoenix44
try using leaves instead... ludwigia and indian fern are good plants for this. also it is best to breed them in a tank with no water current - although breeding can be done in tanks with a current. if he is having trouble holding the nest together, and it sounds like he is - a little help can't hurt... then again if you have no filter in the tank disregard this entire post minus the plants bit and chuck a wet fish at me.
scales & tails fishfa
Sorry to make this situation worse, but I do not have any current in my tank, there are indian ferns and a lotus plants leaves floating around..... and I am not to good at throwing so the wet fish will have to wait.
phoenix44
im stealing a quote from another member on this forum and am using it in a context that is appropriate: Your fish is broken
Ira
im stealing a quote from another member on this forum and am using it in a context that is appropriate: Your fish is broken   Try feeding them some oily foods. A bit of a film on the water surface might be enough to toughen up the bubbles a bit? Something to make the bubbles last longer.
scales & tails fishfa
cool. What oily foods do you suggest. :-? My fish is not allowed to be broken. The recipt says that I can't return it!

Caper
I'm not into breeding any type of fish but I thought I've read here that some people use a plastic lid, correct me if I'm wrong please! Caper
phoenix44
i always used a small (5cm x 5cm or similar) size of glad wrap - floats on the water and the fish makes a nest under that. maybe that may make a difference....
yeh_buddy
You could even put some glad wrap over the nest to help keep it together, that works for me.
scales & tails fishfa
Good News!!!!!!!! My fighter is blowing bubbles againg! And there not popping! And what did I do....... absolutly nothing :-? No idea what happened. But now he is blowing bubbles again that don't pop in his same old plastic cup. Maybe it was a mental thing? Maybe he had a short bubble-phobia thingy? Anyway, thanks for all the help , tommorow I'm going to feed him some mosquito larvae. Glad my fish isn't broken
