snookie
red bellied pacu or black pacu am i correct in the fact red bellys grow smaller than black pacu ? there is lots of different info on the net
David R
IIRC they're the same thing. I've never seen a huge "red bellied" pacu, and I've never seen a small "black" one. Just another reason why common names are nonsense and the aquarium hobby should start using Latin names...
snookie
2 different species Colossoma macropomum and Piaractus brachypomus
David R
Well it looks like the red belly does stay smaller, my quick searching found they only get to about 90cm, as opposed to 100cm for the blacks.
livingart
they is both big fishies
David R
Yep, neither should be sold in the pet trade IMO. They're just one of those fish (arapimas, RTC's, pacus etc) that just shouldn't be commonly available to the general public. (not trying to suggest anything Al, just ranting in general)
