pufferfishnz
I live in Nelson and I am after some baby rabbits. Does anyone in Nelson or Blenheim breed or have some baby rabbits? I am considering having 2 females, but maybe 1 male and 1 female. Can anyone help? I have looked on Trade Me but there are none in the Nelson/Blenheim region. Caryl
What sort? I saw 4 rabbits up in the Wither Hills today while on my walk  I have a friend who breeds lop eared rabbits. She was advertising on Trademe recently but perhaps she has sold all the last batch if you can't find any now. I know they were there cos my daughter bought one
David R
What sort? Foodtown has them quite regularly here... or is that not the kind you're after?
dantedobe
Once 2 females hit puberty they will fight. Best get a male and female and get him castrated. They will live happily together that way.

They both lived to the age of 3, one got sick and died then the other died of a lonely heart a few weeks later. No i am looking for alive ones...but you are right there are plenty at the supermarket! alanmin4304
I thought breeding rabbits for food in NZ had died out. Are they imported?
Caryl
I haven't seen rabbit meat in supermarkets for a number of years either. My dad used to breed and kill them for the local supermarkets but that was a long time ago.
alanmin4304
They are probably as good as the australian mutton birds that were around a few years ago. Made me wonder if a strain new the difference between a mutton bird and a seagull.

shadowfax
pellets arent that great for fattening rabbits. you can give the sweet feed to do the job. there are a few people that breed for meat but the ones i know only supply themselves & friends.
