  1. I have 4 in with my oscars. They are very peaceful fish. My silver dollars love hanging around them. The oscars don't bother them at all. I have also had them in with african cichlids and they were left alone and everyone got on fine. I think they are pretty compatible with most fish who will leave them alone. They do jump though. They are cool fish.
  2. One of our axies stopped eating for 2 months. No sign of disease. Is in an outside pond with 2 others who continued eating. We just kept offering food when we fed the others and 2 weeks ago he decided to eat. Is totally back to normal now.
  3. I don't want to feed them to anything (I am too squeamish for that sort of thing) and I don't want to give them to someone who will feed them to something or release them where they shouldn't. I'm stuck! We have them in a pond at the moment but we have 8 cats who would love frogs and 3 chihuahuas who would love them more
  4. I agree about the no fat. We trim all fat off and freeze small pieces freeflow, defrost before feeding. We hand feed them every couple of days.
  5. Great, last year the staff all took tadpoles into each class at school and they released them as they changed to frogs. This year to save them from the kids all taking them and not looking after them, I took the remainders at the end of term. What am I going to do with them?
  6. I use play sand that you buy in bags from any landscaping place. It is dirty and you have to rinse and rinse and rinse again, and when you think its clean enough - rinse it again. I use this in all my tanks.
  7. I have around 20 tadpoles some have developed legs. I think they are Golden Bell Frogs. I got them from work (it was either me taking them or kids), they originally came from Tokomaru Bay. I don't know what to do with them. I thought I could release them when they had turned to frogs but I looked on the web and they said they are only found north of Gisborne. We are going camping in Gisborne next week. Should we take them and release them up there. If so - where?
  8. - Axolotl or Axolotyl (I'm sure its the first one) Yep - Should I have gravel I have sand as it can pass through them, gravel can cause death if gets stuck as they can eat it when eating - Best food to give them ours get worms, heart, beef, lamb etc - Do they need a chiller in summer (Hawkes Bay) no but keep in coolest room in summer - What size tank should I have for 2 20cm Axolotls I have 3 in 3ft tank - What should I put in there tank (plants, rocks, etc.) yes they need caves etc to hide in during day, they won't eat your plants
  9. Pity you are down south as I have a male and female blue dolphin you could have had.
  10. We are so lucky. We have 8 cats and none of them touch the goldfish and I've had the pond for 3 years. They even drink from the pond and the fish all come over to see if they are going to be fed! Our dogs keep the neighbours cats out of our backyard which is good.
  11. You can always find room, who needs furniture anyway!
  12. Neither, the goldfish if don't get eaten would nibble on the axolotls gills and the pleco would not like the cold water. Just get another tank!
